Re: unlock code for dvd drive for a Compaq Presario V2000
You can only change the region code 4 times and then it locks onto that region. There are firmware upgrades for various model DVDs on the Internet that makes the DVD drive region free, but if you make a mistake in upgrading the firmware or installing the wrong firmware version then the DVD drive is turned into a piece of junk. The best way to solve your problem is to install software that defeats the region code so you can play DVDs from any region. I use a region free program fronm DVD Idle, it is not very expensive and there are other similar programs on the Internet. Use Google to search for them. Have a look at www.dvdidle.com

It is possible to "unlock" your DVD but will take a lot of research as it is not down solely to the manufacturer of your PC/Laptop but the manufacturer of the DVD installed in the m/c and would entail a firmware change.
Here is an example of the search you'll have to make.
There is also software available which will remove the region code from a DVD if you download the entire DVD to your hard drive (it won't remove it from the disc itself) instances of these are DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter etc.
Again there is software available which will block your DVD from registering that a region change has taken place on a "use at your own risk" basis but I would not recommend any of them personally.
I unlocked the region coding on the drives on my PC about 3 years ago it was simple to do but took hours of reseach to find the correct firmware to be able to do it.
It is not impossible but if you are prepared to spend the time Google is your friend.
if your useing vista press the start button go into control panel select classic view ,then select device manager, find your dvd player click on it select dvd region pick the one you want but you can only change it a limited number of times
Your DVD drive is missing the Burning Program not the driver. I found an update for your windvd software for windows 7 but you probably have to have the full program installed to run the update. Hope this helps.
You only can change this setting 5 times, then it is locked. You can not change the Region code after this even if you reinstall Windows, or move the drive to another computer. You can try upgrading the Firmware for the drive from the Compaq / HP Support page for your product. If that does not work, you will need to replace the drive, or download and install a Region Free software like AnyDVD or DVD Region Killer.
hello, there could be several cause for faulty DVD ROM, May be prob is due to faulty lens of drive try to clean your drive and check whether it will work or not? If still not work then its better to change DVD rom if it in warranty period.
the dvd region of your dvd drive does not match with the region code of some of the dvd drive, you can change the region code five times, but its better download the software like region code breaker, then play dvd's.
how do you like the solution please rate it
