In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

An earlier post of the smaller model of this with the same problem said to remove the metal cover over the power supply.
I have the 26MF231D and it worked great afterward (even though you can't mount it)
Here is how you remove the cover.

Howdy,
It would be a lot cheaper if you just replace the two caps that have gone bad. Just get a cheap solder pencil from the store and about an inch of solder and you are in business.
The Power Supply Board is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM852 & CM853; 2200ufd 25volts.
Thaks for using FIXYA, BIG IRISH.

As in the first place I thin when the set was opened for solving the sound problem and reassembled the whole set worked with a difference.
To me it looks as though you need to recheck and redo the first job once again . Please have the power lines taken off and the charge in the main power supply section discharged.
Now look at all the connectors , the drivers, the possible heating areas. there is a high possibility that bad connections , loose connections or DRY solder joints are a possible issue. Use a good light to look into the circuits and the connections. Unless you can probe with a voltage /signal test, replacement of the whole board is not a solution as to the cost.
Since you have the two boards a cross check on the components can be done. Please check power to the processor section, check the oscillations on the crystal to confirm the working of the processor, and finally the drivers of the different stages.
so you shouldn\'t bother too much with it. I have the same model and it shuts itself off whenever it chooses to. I\'ve only had it since the 23rd of November, and it shut itself off after 2 days and maybe being on only 6 hours in those two days. It shut off the other day after 40 minutes. Read the reviews on Target\'s site, most people have issues.
On Facebook, the manufacturer said they would be adding this model to their site within a week, and that was around the 26th of November that they said that and it\'s still not on their site yet. I got mine at Target and I have 90 days to return it, so I\'m going to wait until TVs go on sale around the beginning of Feb and return it.
