Replace the coil. Remove the top cover so that you can see the flywheel. There will be a horseshoe shaped peice with the plug wire attatched to it along with a small whir plugged onto it. Remove the two screws holding it on and unplug small wire and disconnect plug wire. When you put the new one on place a business card between coil and flywheel, this will give you the proper spacing, reconnect small wire and plug wire, reassemble top covers and you are good to go.

SOURCE: Poulan Pro 22" does not mulch!

When you mulch you can only cut 1/3 of the grass off. If the grass is 3" high you can only cut 1" off.If you are cutting more grass of than you are leaving there is no place to hide the clippings.A general rule is if you notice clippings and clumps beginning to lay set the mower up one notch at a time until the clippings are hardly noticeable. If you like a real low cut then mulching is probably not for you,you will probably want to bag the grass instead.Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Poulan 550 mower idle problme

Check air filter, replace if needed.
Check engine oil level and condition. Add/change as needed.
Check spark plug. Clean and re-gap if needed (.030 gap)
Drain the fuel and replace with fresh premium grade gasoline. If your local station has a notice on the pump regarding Ethanol content, drive to another station!

Most owner's manuals specify 89 octane or higher and most warranties become void if E85 fuel is used.

And finally, Oxygenated fuels are not your mower's best friend. :-)

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how to change oil in poulan pro 650 series model

Drain plug is under the motor. tip the hole machine back, (handle lying on ground) put something heavy on handle to hold it down, the plug usually is a 1/2 size wrench. Put a pan under machine to catch the oil. Take the drain plug out, drain oil, put drain plug back in, tighten it, and put machine back on all four wheels. Add oil. Take about 3/4 quarters of a quart. SAE 30 or 10w-30.

I have a poulan pro 550 series B&S 158cc push mower. it sounds like a moved the choke when I went under a bush, because its running at a lower rpm. However, I can't find a manual choke.

The first thing I would do is , look at the front of the mower. On your front right side is your air filter. Remove the air filter, I believe that coincidently your air filter got to the point where it couldn't breathe anymore, meaning clogged to the point of choking. You can tell by putting it up to sun light and looking through it. If it's very very dirty , it needs to be changed. Also if there is a choke, it would be just behind the air filter. If it blocked off the end of the carburater then the choke is on. If this is the case then follow the rod that moves the choke. Possibly it was bent when you went under the bush. I believe you will find that your problem lies with a dirty air filter.

Riding mower will not start or brake

The two are seperate issues. The switch on the brake pedal is on the frame and is accuated by the pedal, not the rod or spring. If you are not confident with a voltmeter or test light, then the Sears tech will be the fastest thing to mowing again.
