The Lamp would cause the picture to be dimmer but not discolored. I would suspect the Optical Engine is causing the yellowish tint. Due to the cost of replacing, call Hitachi at
1800-448-2244 and see if they would be willing to help with the repair.
Hope this helps,

Picture is very dark and hard to see

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is UX21513.You can find it here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/Hitachi-UX21513-LM500-Replacement-UHP-Lamp-Proj-p/hitach-ux21513-lm500-lamp-bulb.htm?Click=48173 Have a blessed one!

My samsung has yellow jaundice!

if all the tubes are lit then i would suspect from what you describe you have alge growth in one or all of you tubes. at the shop we would change the fluid called glycol., i rather involved procedure because once you remove the tubes then have to go through advance setup aligning them. We generally change all the fluid in all tubes although you can change in just one. The blue tends to be the one with the worst fluid problems.

Colorimetre HCFR software
AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.

The bulb won't do that. What you're describing sounds like a light tunnel failure.
