Top of printer is stuck in the open position showing cartridges
I have an HP Photosmart 3210 that is 3.5 yrs. old. I love this printer. It recently started jamming alot so I unplugged it, wiped it down, rollers, glass, etc. and now it is stuck in the open position with the cartridges showing. I have plugged it back in and it will just not close. How can I get it to close?
Re: Top of printer is stuck in the open position showing...
I had the same problem: the acess cover was locked in the open position. i disassembled the whole lot including hinges( not a good advice). try some silicone spray( no mineral oil, but maybe cooking oil) directly into the hinge and bring some movement into the lid. there are no gears or latches that can lock the hinges.

WELL IT'S 5 DEC 2012, THIS HP 3210 QUIT MAGENTA'S. WENT TO TOOLS TO CHECK LEVELS, NO YELLOW, GOT NEW CARTRIDGE, TEST SHOWED NO MAGENTA'S. REMOVED RIGHT SIDE COVER (GENTLY) AND REMOVED ALL TEN CABLES AND REINSERTED CAREFULLY. TESTED AGAIN, AND HAD LINES ONLY ON BOTH LIGHT AND DARK MAGENTA'S, RAN CLEAN HEADS, SIX TIMES AND ALIGN PRINTER ONCE. PICTURE GOT BETTER AND BETTER FINAL TEST DIAGNOSTIC PAGE PERFECT ALL SOLIDS. GOOD LUCK KEEP GOING
Unplug unit first. Is the print cartridge docked at the far right? If not, move it from side to side to check for paper jams. Most likely there is an obstruction that will not allow it to travel freely. Once cleared, close the cover and reattach the power cord. Power up and see what happens.
These cartridges are really only ik resovoirs for the printer. It does have an ink flow sensor, though. If the printer does not recognize the ink level, it is possible that you got a cart with a bad chip. I refill these alot, and all you can really do is check the chip on the cart and make sure nothing is on the contacts...otherwise replace. A good step would be to put the old cart in and see what happens...
Very simple cartridge. Check the chip on the bottom to be sure that nothing is on the contacts. Try installing the old cart and see what happens. Fortunately, these are not very expensive. Install the old one, unless you ran it until it locked the printer out.
