Hello thedragon_43

The typical cause of this problem would be a sticky key, worse case the tab key is damaged. Either problem would cause it to continue to scroll down as you said.

The only thing you can really do to try and fix it is see if you can carefully pop it off with a flat head screwdriver. (Don't force it to hard)... Clean any mess you may see under it, and then put the key back on, again not forcing anything while doing so.

If that still can't fix the problem then you may have to consider finding a used or replacement keyboard for it.

Try my suggestion, and post back for further assistance. Thank you for trying Fixya!

Beeping when in start up many times and scrolls down the page automatically

Do you have picture? Many beeps can be faulty video output...but I would also guess maybe a stuck key, the beeping would be the interrupt working overtime and the scrolling down could be an indicator as to which key is stuck, depending on when it scrolls, posibly a down arrow, number on numeric keypad, or return or tab key?

Need to find list/definitions of "function Keys"

Please open this LINK, scroll down to page no. 2-5 i.e. the section with "To use the Function Hot Keys Fn". There you'll find the details about the functional function keys of your compaq. It seems your function key i.e. Fn key is activated, to deactivate, press and hold down the Fn key while you tap the Numlock key once.

Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Dell mouse not responding; diagnostics results says test passed. mouse works on other PC

Hello,
There is a very good chance it's one of two problems. First, while theoretically you can connect tons of USB products, sometimes USB ports can be kind of hinky... Try unplugging something else USB based and plugging in the mouse or try several different ports. Also be sure it's not plugged into a USB hub and is going directly into your computer. If this works play with the arrangement of your USB devices until you find a configuration that works, maybe you'll have to switch out a printer or external drive while using your USB mouse...
If this doesn't provide a solution the next thing to do is to uninstall the pointer device driver in device manager and allow it to re-install.
If you don't have an alternate mouse to complete the task, here is the keyboard shortcuts for Windows although depending on your version of Windows it may be slightly different.
-First hold the windows key and hit the r key (win+r)
this will bring up the run menu
-Next type mmc this will bring up a management console
-Next press the ALT key and hit the down arrow key
(this should drop down the file menu, if it doesn't please try ALT+F)
-Use the arrow key to scroll down to Add/Remove snap in and hit enter.
-Use the arrow key to scroll down to Device Manager and hit ALT+A to add the device manager to the console. Hit enter.
-Make sure local computer is selected if this menu comes up and hit enter.
-Hit enter one more time bringing you back to the console with the device manager added.
-Hit tab to get to the center console and scroll down to mouse.
(If tab isn't doing anything please hit the ALT key once.)
-Hit enter to open the tree if it isn't already
-Scroll down to mice and other pointing devices (or something along these lines) and hit the right arrow key to expand the tree again.
-Select the USB mouse with arrow keys
-Hit the alt key again then the down arrow (not together) and then the right arrow key until you get to the action menu and use the arrow key to go down to uninstall and hit enter.
-Wait a moment and then go back to the action menu (you may have to hit tab just keep trying tab and the down key (not together) until a menu opens. Go over to the action menu again and choose scan for hardware changes. The computer should recognize the mouse and now work.
I hope this helps you. Thank you.

Why did the subscript numbers of the keyboard are entered instead of letters? how can i change it?

This can happen if the Fn (function key) is held down while the scroll key (number lock) is pressed. Try holding the Fn key down and press the scroll key to see if the letters free up.
