Re: my computer

If you don't have a back up disk, you need your original Windows cd to correct this. Insert the CD and let it boot up again. Select the repair option on re boot. It will take you step by step on what to do. Other option is a overheating processor or power supply, which can be checked and you can clean the dust using a can of compressed air or a vacuum around both the power supply and the fan and any other dusty areas.

Computer wont bootup windows xp error loading operating system drive 1 not found please help me

1.Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.
Restart your computer and press F8 again. This time, choose Safe Mode and press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start in Safe Mode, which does not automatically start programs and hardware, and displays very primitive graphics. If Windows XP starts successfully in Safe Mode, you can remove any programs or updates you have recently installed. Then, restart your computer normally.

Performing a repair installation of Windows XP can fix many serious startup problems. While you should not lose any of your important documents, you might lose settings, and you will need to reinstall many updates.
Before performing a repair installation of Windows XP, you should have both your Windows XP CD and your product key available.
To perform a repair installation of Windows XP
Insert your Windows XP CD into your computer.
Restart your computer. If prompted, press a key to start from the CD-ROM.
When the Welcome to Setup page appears, press ENTER on your keyboard.
On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement page, read the licensing agreement. Press the PAGE DOWN key to scroll to the bottom of the agreement. Then, press F8.
When prompted, press R to have Windows XP attempt to repair Windows by reinstalling important Windows components.
The repair and reinstallation process might take more than an hour. Eventually, Setup prompts you to answer questions just as if you were installing Windows XP for the first time. For detailed instructions, read Install Windows XP.

Computer randomly shuts down. Cleared everything we want to save off computer. Looking to bring Windows XP back to original state. We did not get a start up disk with this computer. What can I do?

Go online to the website for your computer. On this page look for -> Support
Click on Support. There should be a -> Contact Us.
(For HP it's Contact HP in the upper left corner of the Support page)

I would use their toll free phone number, and call them. Tell them you need the Restoration Disk. They may have a different name for it, but will know what you're talking about. Have it mailed to you. I suggest DO NOT download it! You may need this disk in the future.

I did the above for a Compaq computer. Compaq is owned now by HP. The disk was free. The Shipping and Handling was not. (Neither is the download)
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $22 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Won't shut down completely

If shutting down XP takes what seems to be an inordinate amount of time, here are a couple of steps you can take to speed up the shutdown process:
  • Don't have XP clear your paging file at shutdown. For security reasons, you can have XP clear your paging file (pagefile.sys) of its contents whenever you shut down. Your paging file is used to store temporary files and data, but when your system shuts down, information stays in the file. Some people prefer to have the paging file cleared at shutdown because sensitive information such as unencrypted passwords sometimes ends up in the file. However, clearing the paging file can slow shutdown times significantly, so if extreme security isn't a high priority, you might not want to clear it. To shut down XP without clearing your paging file, run the Registry Editor (click Start > Run, then type regedit in the Run box) and go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

  • Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0. Close the Registry, and restart your computer. Whenever you turn off XP from now on, the paging file won't be cleared, and you should be able to shut down more quickly.

Note: Please be careful when editing the Registry; you can do a lot of damage here. Don't change or delete anything unless you know exactly what it is.

Hp compaq presario v3000 is not loding the OS, show an error

  • as you boot the computer, start tapping the F8 keys
  • From the boot menu, select Safe Mode
If this seems to work, you can try restoring the computer to an earlier point from Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
If Safe Mode also fails to load, you would have to check your disk for errors or you may have to install XP all over again.
Please get back, if you need any further help.

AS what you have said computer start over and over again. this was due to the system conflict or hardware conflict.

Or reinstall the windows operating system.

Compaq presario 6024 will not start up in windows it gets to the ----- and then shuts down and starts again the same thing over and over

Turn your computer off. Turn your computer on. Hold down on the F8 and select safe mode while the computer is booting. Once your in safe mode and the windows desktop appears, restart your computer again and see if that corrected the problem.

If you don't get into windows via f8, it should tell you on the screen what the problem is. Which usually means reinstalling Windows.
