Question about Denon DRA-685 Receiver

Denon DRA-825RA receiver: flickers, displays garbage, shuts off

I have a Denon DRA-825RA receiver which shuts off a few seconds after being switched on. In the short time it is on, the display used to flicker and display garbage. Now the display won't light up at all. The red indicator on the volume knob is the only sign of life (other than the clicking of the relay), and that flickers. Any ideas? Does anyone know if there is a reset procedure for this roughly 20 year old receiver?

Bad resistors? Bad solder joints or broken traces? Seems there is something flaky with the power supply.

Needs to be reset or fuse blown. Take to repair shop, cover has to be taken off and fuse replaced. You could fix it yourself but the warranty won't be honored. Do it yourself electronic shop should have a replacement fuse, may have to be soldered in place. Repair shop, should cost around $30.00 to $45.00 to fix, price of fuse $4.00 to $6.00. Your choice.

SOURCE: Denon DRA-25/25L Stereo Receiver.

Without looking at the schematics for this particular model, I'd surmise that the click is indeed a speaker protection relay. Generally this is fed by a number of different sense circuits that watch for power amp issues and/or excess speaker current and/or power supply output stability. Although the relays do indeed fail at times, generally it is not the relay that is at fault. If you have a scope and a schematic, you can check the various circuits that feed the relay for the exact cause. If not, you can do some experiments that might help deduce the problem: e.g. do headphones work when speakers do not, does the relay click on when no speakers are connected (or selected), etc. In my experience, it is most often the output transistor(s) in the power amp. But not always ;-)

IF YOUR NOT USING A DENON IPOD DOCKING STATION IT WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
YOU CAN CONNCET OTHER TYPES OF IPOD DOCKING STATIONS BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE CONTROL THROUGH THE DENON AND ONLY CONNECT THE AUDIO FOR THAT DOCKING STATION TO THE DENON AS ANOTHER SOURCE INPUT

Right then sounds like the connection from the aerial lead into the receiver - check out the socket where the aerial plugs into!

Is it loose at all or could there be a bad connection inside the unit.
Get the cover OFF and investigate yourself before you rush down to that very friendly repair man along the street.

I have a Denon (receiver) DRA-825ra that has this issue: It powers on and you hear the first click sound right away, but the second click sound after five seconds does not activate. Can you help me...

Try plugging in headphones to the headphone jack, then take the plug out. Some models of Denon receivers had faulty headphone jacks in them that caused the unit to think there were headphones plugged in even when there wasn't.

Dra-397 shuts down 1 second after turning on

There's a couple of possibilities; power supply shutting down because of a fault within it; the PS shutting down because of excessive current drawn and that can be caused by a failure in the final amplifiers which are probably modular in design.

Denon dra 397 shuts done if I turn on both zone a & b. Have a 100 watt volume control on each pair of speakers. Works fine with only zone a or zone b on, but not both.

Let's understand this - you have an external volume control wired in series with each front speaker set?

Can you elaborate on their electrical characteristics?

I have a Denon receiver dra 545a that won't power on... how costly might it be to repair

Sounds like the power supply went out. Check inside to see if a fuse is blown. Replace it once (with the exact rating) and if it blows a second time, then you have something shorting out and can be costly to repair. DO NOT replace the fuse with a higher rating for it might cause a fire.

Denon DRA-37 Receiver-Remote lock on. Need to unlock.

Refer to the "Initialization of the Microprocessor" section of the manual (page 16 of the PDF version of the manual).
1) Turn the unit OFF using the On/Off switch (not the standby switch).
2) Depress both the Speaker A and B switches, and turn the Power ON.
3) The entire display should flash at 1-second intervals. The microprocessor should be reset, and the remote should be unlocked.

you need to check your speakers connections to make sure nothing is touching and all is connected right and not to have to many spkrs on the channels, also only have the skrs on that you are using, make sure zone 2 / 3 are off and multi volm is turned down
