Take the back cover off the motor and then there will be four nuts that hold on the back bearing cage of the motor. After removing that, you will find 7 large screws in beside the motor that remove the gearbox. Best wishes!

I am trying to do the same thing. i.e get to the n50 gearbox. I took off the 4 nuts holding the bearing cage... how do you get the bearing cage (or whatever the rear thing) is called? It moves only about 1/16in in and out but won;t come off. Is it pressed on or is there a pin or keeper holding it on?

Kitchenaid mixer blade holder will not turn

I answered this for you in the blender dept, it will almost certainly be the fuse gear and that's machine cases apart to look in the gearbox.
Fuse gear part number is
4162897 Worm Gear
If you want to make the repair a little faster then the fuse gear already mounted in the bracket is another option
240309?2 Worm Gear Bracket And Gear
I call it a fuse gear, they call it a worm gear.

How do you grease gearbox? I noticed a 1/8th inch hole next to driveshaft. Do you add grease there?

You need to supply brand and model. Normally greasing is done with the gear cases opened apart. If it is leaking grease/oil then it means the grease has gone old, you remove all the old stuff and put in some new stuff. It is a messy job. Over time grease breaks down and the oil component separates out from the solids.

The power take off for accessories doesn't work

That's a bit of a task to sort out. If you aren't up for a full strip down and clean up followed by new gears and repack with grease then contact Kitchen Aid for a local repairer. You will be up for a couple of gears and maybe even the top housing if the bush for the accessory drive gear is wrecked. If you need "how to" help then get back to me for step by step.

Kitchen Aid Professional 600 rattles

I had a rattle under load in one and got rid of most of it by putting a bit of a wave in the washer underneath the small gear that races around inside your planetary hub where the beater goes on. The gearbox is sold as a single unit, no individual parts so if it looks ok and all screws are tight leave it be.

Gearbox oil

I don't know how much gear oil nor what type of gear oil. But most likely anywhere you can get a-hold of gear oil... use what you can get. I would try restaurant supplies. In my city there is a place called Case & Drum that sells anything from the petroleum industry.

My motor doesnt seem to go round freely

Does the beater shaft turn when there is no load? (bowl is empty) Or it will not turn at all?

It sounds like you have a stripped gear. Your mixer has a nylon/plastic gear inside the mixer and that is 99% of the time what goes wrong. You will want to open the mixer up and inspect all of the gears, but most likely you will need to replace the worm gear, part number W10112253.

Here at we sell Genuine KitchenAid parts and the items can be found on our website.

Here is a link to that gear:

You may also want to replace the grease and gearbox gasket while you have the mixer opened up.

We also have a service manual posted on our website which will aid in taking the mixer apart and putting it back together properly.

Has very loud gear noise, too much play in worm drive?

Here is the breakdown of your gearbox. Pull it apart by removing the cover of the unit and checking for play from the motor shaft thru to the beater shaft. It will more than likely be one of the plastic gears.

My K45SS is leaking some kind of oil or grease from the part of the mixer above where the mixer part attaches. It otherwise seems to be functioning fine.

its gear oil from the gear box that the motor turns to make the beaters turn, you need to replace the seals or keep adding food grade oil before you dry out the gearbox and ruin it

Mine is a Chef Stand Mixer but really don't know model no. Where to find?

This kind of unit are lubricated with grase paste. If the unit stays inactive for a long time, or if the motor and gears are overheating the grease paste gets melted into thin oil, and that will cause leaks.

To lubricate the unit, you need to spread again the grease in the gearbox, using special foodsafe grease paste.
Disassemblying the gear box is not that easy, you will need previous experience and a gear puller to do the job properly and safely.
This appliances are also held with security screws to prevent the users from taking apart the unit, and can only be disassembled using a Security screwdriver tip.

The grease can be purchased here, check at the bottom of the page: Kenwood chef food mixer Grease.
