Well, the short answer to your question is "No, it won't work". The Dell Dimension 4600 does not have any PCI Express slots in it, therefore you can't install it, and therefore it won't work. But, if you installed a PCI sound card, it would work. The BIOS would recognize the add-on sound card, disable the onboard sound, and your sound will start going through the expansion card instead. Hope this helps.

Pci input device and mulitimedia audio controller please help

Hello michael_bilb

This is what comes up in device manager under "other devices" in windows xp.

The reason is that your computer uses creative sound blaster live 24bit sound card.

To get read of that you need to install the sound card driver. It can be downloaded from Dell support on their web site.

If you can not get it from dell try this link
http://support.creative.com/Products/product_list.aspx?catID=1&CatName=Sound+Blaster#

on the screen click on "live"
in the "archive products" column click on the last item "sound blaster lave value"
you should be able to download your driver from their.

Good luck

Need sound card for dell dimension

Any PCI sound card can be fitted such as this one for example located here: http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=376099&sourceid=2459&CAWELAID=355969297 be sure it's PCI only, and not PCI Express, as your system does not support PCI Express.

What kind of sound card do I need? I can't get any

The dimension 4600 has an integrated sound card, but if that is not working and a driver update does not correct the issue, then any sound card that used a PCI interface will work with that system.

My speakers on my Dell Dimension do not work

Check to see if you have a sound card in a pci slot or if the sound is intergrated into the motherboard. If its in the board you can get the driver from the computer or motherboard manufacturer. If its a pci card get the driver from the card manufactures website

Dell Dimension 4600 creative sound blaster card

It sounds like you may have broken your sound card. I had the same problem when I tried to digitise my old 4-track recordings.
I tried the broken card in another PC, found that it was not working, so I went out and bought a new sound card.

Sound Blaster Live PCI is what this is called.

This card was also used in Dell Dimension 8100 systems, so you might get that driver.

Need suggestion for replacement sound card for Dimension 8100

Most sound cards use the PCI bus to install a card. A cheap Sound Blaster Audigy works great for most applications.Under 40 bucks at Walmart.

Vista Ultimate = no sound

Looks like you need to buy a new soundcard. Creative Labs makes an excellent 7.1 digital card for PCI slot that is relatively cheap. Just make sure when you purchase the card, it is Vista Compatable.
