I have kenmore 385 12712090. It seemed to kinda jam as the needle went up and down, got tight. Now won't go up and down. At the very end of a 10 cushion project. I just want to scream!

I tried to take front cover off, removed all the screws that I could see, still didn't want to come off. Was holding at top and I didn't want to break it.
Thanks for your help. Just found this site.

Hi my mother in law have a frister & rossmann 202 sawing mechine fault. The needle mechansm will only go down half way , it seems like either something is jammed or seized any ideas ? Tom

If it hasn't been cleaned and thoroughly oiled in a long time, it probably has seized due to the old oil drying out and sticking the moving parts together. If this is the case, the following should have it working:

Feed dogs on Kenmore 158.17810 Sewing material won't advance because the feed dog doesn't lower enough to go below surface of the needleplate even though it does rise and descend appropriately.

You machine most likely has not had a thorough oiling, cleaning, and adjustment for a long time. The old oil dries out, turns to glue, and moving parts no longer move like they should.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized):

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

My thread keeps breaking. bobbin thread seems to be alright, have changed thread, needle.

The needle thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

Perhaps your clamp screw is too tight. Remember, "lefty-loosy, righty-tighty". Take your pliers and turn left or take it to a repair-person.

My Kenmore sewing machine model 385.15212 is stuck in the needle down position. I have cleared the threads and cleaned the bobbin area. Tried to force the hand wheel, but it won't go, and don't want to...

I doubt it is a motor problem but it is too jammed up to turn the motor-you are right not to force it. Take out all of the bobbin parts again and leave them out. Now unscrew the needle and while lowering it, into the needleplate hold it tightly and remove it. Clear all thread from the machine and it should now move freely.
Reassemble the bobbin parts and reinsert a new needle being careful to insert it fully and correctly.

Color coded Kenmore needles

Hi there, The different colors only correspond with the size of the needle. Green is actually a size 18 (110) needles which is basically as big as they come! your best bet would be to go with a size 11 (75) or 12 (80) needle. For the Kenmore color coding it would blue or orange respectively. Hope this helps

Have you changed the needle? If you have sewn for many hours it may just be a matter of a new needle. Be sure to use flat back kenmore or kenmore compatiable needles...no Singer (too long).

Needle won't grab bobbin thread

Check the position of the needle. Some machines have to have the needle in a certain way or they won't pick up the thread from the bobbin. Make sure the screw on the bobbin is tight but not to tight you may have to adjust it a few times to get it where it needs to be. Also make sure the bobbin is wound tight
