Linux may be on another partition and Windows cannot recognize it, otherwise the MBR could be damaged and you should conect it externally and run a disk check on the drive.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My external hardisk is showing in device manager but it is not showing in disk manager

**Turn your computer off, then unplug the USB cable and then the power to the drive. Restart you computer, plug the power into the hard drive, wait 10 seconds and then plug the USB into the computer. This clears the hard drive buffer. See if the drive shows up in disk management. Before formating, turn off your antivirus. **
**1. Test your drive on another pc
2. Check your bios settings

The light come on but it says it will not start

If you are running any Windows OS older than MS 2000, then it will not work unless the drivers are copied to the system's HDD. Windows XP and Vista are preferrable. Check your electrical power outlet for the right voltage. As a guard against damage, such devices don't work outside prescribed voltage range. On that same connector, try attaching a flesh drive and check for its functionality. If ok, then there is likely a factory fault and should be returned for replacement or refund. Good luck

I had similar problem few years ago.
On the hard drive manufacturer site you should find utility which will "cheat" your laptop bios and control the hard drive bypassing the bios.

120gb Hard Drive

I'm going to say that the drive is mislabeled. I've ran into this before with Western Digital two or three times, and quite a few times with various memory chips. Contact WD support, explain the problem, and their usually pretty good about getting the right one to you.
