The problem is the the remote work station has a copy of he original open. His version will only update when he reloads the document. Your updated version becomes the new version. His read Only is in RAM on his machine.

Hope this helps?

I created an Excel program and somehow hit something that caused it to become a "read only" file that I cannot change nor add to. How did it happen, and how do I remove the "read only"...

Here are the steps on how you can make it a read/write file:

  1. Make sure that the file is not open in Excel.
  2. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. In the Exploring window, open the drive or folder that contains the file.
  4. Click the file name.
  5. On the File menu, click Properties.
  6. Click the General tab.
  7. Clear the Read-only check box.

Hope this helps!

My excel file was working yesterday, but as of

Shouldn't be a date issue... did you open the file the way you normally do ?
Something has changed here... bad shut down with this file opened... maybe.
Open Excel and pull down the File Menu and see if there are more than copy or version of your spreadsheet. Look at all...
File could have corrupted the Font or could be a Virus. Try just changing the font in one cell.
If this is your only copy of the file... make a copy to see if it works on another machine... that will isolate the problem... it may just be corrupt... the fix is Excel healing it on it's own when it opens.

Problem Microsoft Excel 2007

There is a get external data function that you can backend the Excel to various sources via ODBC etc and it would be refreshed based on the updates to those sources, and then once it is linked properly, it will auto refresh. When you define the ODBC point to the file on the network and that would be the way to refresh to that. If the Excel is on the network, it can be shared.
