My Invacare tdx5 storm wheelchair purchased from Northcott Equipment Solutions about four years ago will not go. Power is on and it will elevate and recline but in the forward drives it had an error message E100 and now E102 that says "short/open in control or motor". A friend has tried to help by checking connections an poking a small meat skewer down the reset button hole. I drove the chair to the table this morning and went to drive away and this problem occurred. Can this be fixed at home or do we need to send the chair back for repair?     Thank you for your advice. The chap who was with me on Saturday had to leave and so we couldn't get to look for the problem. My physical situation precludes me from doing anything myself.
    It seems a rather major task to pull the chair apart to find the offending wire and as the chair was purchased through PADP I will contact them this morning to see what they would like me to do.
    Should my friend return today where do you suggest he start in looking for the problem and could it be within the motor itself. Also why is it necessary to have a voltmeter.

    I think you are right however the Government Body who purchased this chair for my use have asked that I arrange repairs through a company in Albury. Should my friend come here today he may have a look at it for me.

You have a loose connection and/or you have wiring that is probably grounding itself. Look for frayed wiring, broken wiring, or any loose wiring running to the motor. You will want a voltmeter/multimeter from Radio Shack to test for continuity and such but if you find anything broken or touching each other that is usually a good sign of being the problem. Let me know how this turns out.

    The voltmeter can verify where you have power running and is one of the biggest tools any electronic repair guy will use.

    Please have your friend check where I previously suggested, though you may be better sending it back to Northcott if you plan on doing that anyway as they will know everything about this chair and the problem you have. I doubt you are still under warranty but if you are, then it would be best just to have them work on it.

Pronto M51 feels forced when driving it.


The squealing noise is probably a bearing either in one of the four smaller tires called casters. The problem will not likely cause a break down right away but should be checked by someone mechanically inclined or trained in power wheelchairs. I don't know what you mean by the chair being "forced". Need more info.
May have something to do with batteries.

If the chair is driving slower and batteries are new their is a recall for that joystick from Invacare. Invacare is replacing joysticks for free.

The power funtion drive on my Invacare Storm TDX 5 wheelchair, which operates the tilt, recline, elevating leg rest and seat elevator has stopped working. The drive switch as it appears on the LED screen...


1) Yes your power seat functions can be programed into your drive 4,You'll need a programmer or have to take it into a shop.
2) yes the chair can be manually elevated down,You'll want to take it to a shop for that ,because it requires jumping the power to the seat elevator and swapping the wires around and I would never recommend my customers to do such a thing because of electric shock or burning up the chair.

If your chair has a four wat toggle switch("what controls your power seat functions elev,recl,telt,ext) If thats what your using right now there may be a red light that comes on in drive lock out ,If that light is not on follow that wire all the way down it may have been pinched or cut.If so it will need to be replaced.


Problems like this one is hard to trouble shoot over text or phone ,if your four way switch cord is cut or smashed .Your gunna have to take it into a shop just to make sure ,It didnt cause any electrical problems in your chair .

The legs supports are fixed and are in a down position... I have need for a raised leg support on right leg


The elevating Legrest for the right leg is available from The Aftermarket Group. com. This company is owned by Invacare and sells to the retail customer. Once you are on the website click on wheelchair parts, front rigging, Legrest assemblies:
Scroll down to Invacare Patriot 18" to 20" wide, RP 151009 , Legrest assembly, cam lock, black padded calf pad, heel loop, right. Confirm from the picture and description that this is what you want and order it. There is a handle at the pivot shown in the picture to adjust the angle up or down on the elevation. There is tool free adjuster for your leg length. Hope this helps.

Sure step m51 lights flashing


The year info is the 1st 2 digits of the serial number. The S/N is located on a Mfg's sticker afixed to the frame of the chair.

Are you sure it's in gear?
