On my ifs40 imperial fryer the pilot knob just spins around and wont send gas up to pilot orifice when i push it in

I push in pilot knob to ignite and no gas is being released

  • starztruck4u Oct 02, 2016

I believe the Imperials use a Robertshaw gas valve. That would mean the on/off/pilot knob is tan and round. If that is the case, the little tab inside the knob has broken and the knob spins around. Simple fix, knob is removed by unscrewing screw in the center of the knob. Replace knob, Done. The knob ensures that the valve core is in the right place for gas to come out.

There is a little tab on the knob that is broken. Replace the knob and the fryer will work. One center screw holds the knob on the valve.

SOURCE: Imperial deep fryer IFS40 pilot lights, turn on

Hi there, it sounds like your thermopile, for the pilot, is failing during use, when this happens, the small DC voltage it generates is less than the gas valve requires to stay open, and shuts off the pilot, which shuts off the main burners. Another thing that could be happening, is the hi limit is opening prematurely, instead of shutting of the pilot at 450 deg. it now is opening at 325, or 225 or 250. Sometimes the sensing bulb gets broken where it pass's through the oil tank causing this symptom. If you temporarily bypassed the hi limit to test this also, and it still goes off, you need a thermopile. If it stays on, check your temp with a reliable thermometer, and see if it reads fairly close to your setting, if so, then you need a hi limit.
Hope that helps, and thank you.

I am trying to switch a natural gas deep fryer to propane and cannot fimd the correct part

Hi there.
You can visit http://www.imperialrange.com , you can verify there the correct parts list for the model of your fryer for the conversion from natural to propane and you will be able to search there the nearest authorized parts and service provider in your area.
You will be needing burner orifice for propane, pilot orifice for propane (if available, if not, the whole pilot assembly), Gas valve spring for propane (if available, if not, the whole gas valve for propane).
Regards.

I JUST BROUGHT THIS IMPERIAL DEEP FRYER AND I WANT TO CHANGE FROM NATURAL GAS TO PROPANE GAS.

You will need a conversion kit from natural gas, most of this kit contains gas valve spring, burner and pilot orifice. Check the nearest authorized dealer in your area and ask buy the appropriate conversion for your fryer.

Hi i have a new imperial fryer and im tring to light it and cant seem to get it to work. any idea on how to get it working?

Have a lighter handy (I use one of the elongated ones for caravaners)
in-between the burners is a pilot light (top right) keep the lighter flame where the gas comes out.
On the right hand side of the fryer at the bottom is a gas valve with a little black knob.
Press and hold the black knob in and gas will come out of the pilot light and ignite by the lighter flame. You need to hold the button in for quite a while. (until it stays lit)
When it stays lit depress the little black knob and turn it anti clockwise. Gas comes out of the burners and ignites from the pilot light. When it reaches temp. it will cut out.
To turn it off turn the little black knob clockwise. To turn the pilot light off, push and turn clockwise.

How do you re-light pilot light

Turn the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position. Sometimes you have to slightly depress the knob to turn it..don't use a pair of pliers. In the pilot position.. push the knob in and light the pilot..keeping the knob pushed in for 30 seconds. Let go and the pilot should stay on. Turn the knob to the on position and set the thermostat.

Pilot wont stay lit. Ive replaced the thermopile and still nothing.

if you have replaced the thermo and your still getting exactly the saame problem, the issue lies in your gas valve electrics,
depending on the exact model you may be able to just replace the pilot coil

Imperial fryer IFS-40

I had a very simular problem. My fryer would do exactly as you described, but sometimes the pilot light would stay on until the burners tried to re-ignite and then it would go out.
I finally had to call the gas company. They took the pilot light apart and cleaned it. The fryer works perfect now.
Hope this helps!

Pilot wont light.

Firstly make sure the gas knob is exactly in the pilot mode some are finiky and won't light unless in exactly the right postion. Make sure once lit when pushing down on the pilot knob that you hold it down long enough for the thermocouple to sense the pilot. Barring both of those the most likley culprit is the thermocouple itself is faulty and can easily be removed usally with a couple of screws and a small adjustable wrench.
