Question about Canon PowerShot SD100 / IXUS II Digital Camera
Hi. I hope someone can help. On my 4-year old SD-100 I noticed today that when I turn the camera on ther are white lines running up and down the screen constantly. These lines are white. When I take photos the lines appear on the photos in either white or red color. I noticed red lines when taking photos of my son in an aquarium (maybe it was the lights there that made the lines red). Any other photo I take, I see white lines. Any idea what the problem is? Is it easily and cheaply fixable? Is it time for a new camera? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. This definitely sounds like a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

HI,
The scren is just displaying the input from the CCD (Digital Sensor that actually takes the
picture).. If The pictures were fine, but the screen was funky if you could live with it then there wouldn't be a problem.
Since it's on both the screen AND on your photos it points to there
being a fault with the CCD
Given the age of the camera, the cost of a repair I'm afraid it's time for a new camera. there's nothing you can do to fix this yourself.
Sorry for being the bearer of bad tidings.
If my advice was at least helpful please vote for me!

When I turn on my digital IXUS II camera the there is a burst of white light then it flashes red and white. The pictures that I have on the card are still ok.
Thank you, t00nz. I appreciate the links you sent over.
The strange this is that since my initial post I'm not seeing any issues. I keep waiting for it to happen; I even simulate the situation that made it happen on the day I had the problem. I am having some fuzzy black and white photos but that seems to be remedied based on flash usage. Could the red lines I saw earlier be a sign of things to come? I'm guessing if it happened once it will come back. Thanks again to all responders.
I haven't used my SD100 in about a week but today when I turned it on, it had white distorted lines showing on the LCD screen. When I took a picture, the same image was recorded. It was very strange, this has never happened before and I am glad to see others have experienced this same problem.
I have emailed Canon but have not heard a reply yet since it is the weekend.
I heard I can get it repaired for free with free S&H as well.
That is so great to hear.
Today I turned on my SD100 camera after a week of not using it and the
screen was black with white distorted lines on it. I tried taking a
picture and it took that as a picture. I do not have a picture at all
on my LCD screen.
I thought there might be reset button on it because it is neither the SD card nor the battery.
I heard that Canon will fix the CCD chip for free with free S&H.
That sounds great but I have not heard a reply today, yet.
