Protron's mainboards like to fry and a replacement is difficult to find. Protron tvs are built with very cheap parts and don't follow manufacturing guildlines very well and are difficult to find parts for. I would start with the mainboard as the power supplys don't usually fail in these tvs.
You do not have a bad bulb. You have a weak powersupply. There are three bad capacitors to replace. Locations would include..CS521 [16volts 470 Mf 105 degrees], CS28 [10volt 220Mf 105 degrees] and C32 [25volts 47Mf 105 degrees]. If the 4 amp fuse is still good and I do believe it is..then repair can be done locally! Good Luck and thankyou for listening!
It seems a lot of people are having problems with the Protron power supply. I’ve been able to repair all the ones I’ve seen so I’m confident I can fix them. I don’t sell the replacement power supply but I’ve heard about the ones on EBay. They seem to be a mishmash of two power supplies (12vdc and 24vdc) wired together with the proper connector. This should work but it just doesn’t sound very clean looking to me and they end up costing $150. I’ve been charging between $50 and $100 to repair these power supplies. My recommendation would be to send me the power supply I’ll check it out and unless it’s unusually damaged it will cost $50 plus shipping to repair. If I can’t repair it I’ll return ship it and only charge for shipping. I will guarantee the repair for 1 month. I don’t know what’s causing the power supplies to fail so I can’t guarantee it any longer than that. My feeling about the reason the Protron power supply stops working is two part; could be overheating due to lack of proper ventilation to the power supply; or the TVs power requirement is overdriving the power supply. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I repair these at my work, so here’s the shipping address: Dave Simpson 23372 South Pointe Dr. Ste. B Laguna Hills, CA 92653 Also, I’m set up for PayPal. firstname.lastname@example.org
This is an lcd tv. It does not use a lamp. dlp tvs use lamps. You have fallen into the trap many others have. I am a servicer and I have found there are absolutely no parts, no service manuals, nothing at all available to repair any Protron set. You save some when you buy, but when they break, throw it out.
I had the same problem. Do you have a cable box for digital TV?
do you have a remote from the cable company? that is programmed to control the TV?
get the cable company to unlock the sound control from it (a 3 number code)
put your sound up to maximum if you can
if you hear faint sound repeat above
you should be able to hear the tv then
then go to the sound settings and adjust as needed
get the cable company to check the box in case it has been zapped by lightning
PS let me know if you want to junk it/sell it?
they are excellent TVs
