Tv pops and shuts off

Sounds like you have a bad power supply or possibly a power supply not rated for your tv or the display is just junk . Unplug it and leave it unplugged until you can get it fixed or looked at, POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD!!!

Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. It will make search easy. There are more than 1200 posts to different brand TVs now. Pull up older posts there. Blinking codes to LG Brand TVs are described in detail here.

Why are we having trouble turning our plasma on it can take up to 10 attempts at times ,it pops aswell.

It's the capacitors on the power supply, either buy a new pcb board or buy the capacitors and have somebody solder them in. You can buy the new set on ebay UK for about 20 pounds.

LG Plasma 42pc3d turns on, pops, then turns off

The first thing you should look into is the Z-SUS board, the one situated on the right side viewed from the rear. This board develops a high voltage during operation that might be the source of the popping sound. It is also responsible in refreshing the panel for proper picture display. The weird colors on your TV indicates a faulty Z-SUS board.
Note: Unplug the TV and wait for at least five minutes in order to allow the voltages to drain before you disconnect or reconnect any connector.

  • Disconnect the Z-SUS board from the Y-SUS board. The Z-SUS board is situated on the right side viewed from the rear of the TV while the Y-SUS is on the left.
  • Plug the TV back and turn it on.
  • You will still be able to see the weird colors the moment the TV shut off but do not flash. If it does not pop and stays on and there's a sound, you are pretty sure the Z-SUS board is faulty. Replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, disconnect the Y-SUS board from the power supply. The Y-SUS board also develops a high voltage during operation. The power supply is the one right between the Z and Y-SUS boards.
  • Re-apply AC power then turn the TV on.
  • You'll not be able to see any color or video. If it does not pop and stays on with sound, you have a faulty Y-SUS board, replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, please let me know.
Feel free to update me of the result and your own findings.

Hi, my t.v. was fine. the next morning i went to turn it on and the green light blinks , the screen comes up for about 1/2 second, and there is a popping noise and the t.v. shuts off. i tried unplugging...

Hello jmaselli1,

The popping sound may have been a capacitor or a rely. I am going to assume it was a capacitor, since you probably have not heard the popping sound since that first time. In the case a capacitor possibly located on the power supply board has vented and caused a short circuit in your TV set.

To answer your questions:

is this common problem? yes it is due to a strange case of industrial espionage on the capacitor makers part.

expensive repair? Not really if it is only one bad capacitor, if there are others it could get expensive. depending on the labor costs

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

I have a lg plasma, and the problem is it comes on for about 1 second then shuts off. repair shop says its the power supply? what do you think? the led is red when off and turns off white almost very light...

your power supply is shorted; remove it from the set and, have a TV shop repair it if you are unable to do the repair yourself.
any good shop can do the repair easily and, much cheaper than the manufacturer you can find the power supply by looking to where the power cord enters a circuitboard that will be the power supply

If the repair shop says it is powerboard it means they already took a look at the TV and you dont need to worry about it.
If you have any doubt please post the sympton here (detailed) and I can tell you for sure what the TV needs.
I need to know what the led does and how it does.
