Hi, My gx1260s radio powers up but stuck on CH16 and none of the front panel buttons or the mic buttons work. It receives and transmits on low power OK. A service manual would help. Many thanks, Tony

    Hi, Nicolocarlo,

Neither the buttons on the base or the hand mic work. So I'm thinking it may be a fault on the control board or possibly the radio needs a reset? I don't know how to do a reset on this radio, it's different from the ham gear I'm used to.

    Thanks, Tony

  • zl3ham Jul 18, 2009

Yes I had it totally disconnected for some time but to no avail. I will have a closer look inside to see if anything has bad contacts or any dry joints. Thanks, Tony

Nothing appears to function, set fires up on CH16 and can't be shifted. It may well need a reset, if I knew how that is.

    Thanks, Tony

    Hi, Mustgo,
The socket does not appear to have any type of switch unfortunately. I've managed to download a users manual for the 1270s model and tried to do a factory reset by holding the SCAN & WX buttons in whilst switching on but to no avail it is still in a locked condition.
    Thanks so far, Tony

Interesting, there is a small black wire loop on the cct board at the back edge and it has been cut this may be what you're referring to. I will take it out the case again and connect this link do a reset and see what happens. Will get back to you, many thanks. Tony

  • zl3ham Jul 18, 2009

I tried reconnecting the small loop and did a reset but still no go. I can't seem to find a cct for this rig anywhere. Back to square one. Tony

    Sort of.

Do you has the RAM mic package (with FULL function 8 button keypad and LCD?

Clean the DIN type plug with no contact cleaner.

MALE and FEMALE ends.

If your unit has a small contact switch then clean it with contact cleaner and carefully push it in (ENGAGE) and let it out few times.

This little switch can be your problem.

If this switch is malfunction it may default itself to RAM mic.

Let the unit dry for 1/2 hour and try it out.

Good luck

Gx1260s can accept two kind of mics.

Standard mic with no front control button and the high end RAM Mic with 8 buttons and LCD.

Your unit somehow lock in the RAM Mic mode.

The mic is ID via a switch or a jumper/loop on the DIN plug.

If you able to get the diagram of the RAM mic and Standard mic and compare them that will help you ID how to unlock your keypad.

I will see if I could get a manual. Have you checked the contacts on the dial? Does this only happen on the hand held or at the base as well?

you are correct it is different from the others. i could not find a manual but with the other radios that I have used I just remove all connections especially the power out for more than an hour. I had the same issue a few years back on a different radio... I did some cleaning and found some loose contacts to some IC and had it shut down the way as I have mentioned.

Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

Stuck on rx mode

Rx is an abbreviation for receive. (Tx is transmit) There are a variety of reasons a radio will be "stuck" in Rx:
1) Another radio in the group is stuck in transmit and you cannot reply if your radio is receiving the other radios transmission.
2) Your radio is programmed for Rx only.
3) Your radio has a Tx problem such as a bad mic, or something covering the mic opening.
4) Your battery is low or bad. It takes more energy to Tx than to Rx.

Best regards.

I I have an old Uniden PC 55 CB radio that I picked up at a junk store. After some tinkering, it seems to receive just fine (a little scratchy) but it won't transmit. A friend replaced the connector on the...

The final amplifier circuit goes out on these often. It controls transmit power. They transmit, they light up, they emit about .25 watts or less. IMHO, you are done. They simply are not worth anything and there are no parts available for that repair.

I have a cobra ltd29 and I seem to be able to send very clearly but I am not able to receive unless I am right next to the other radio.

Without more in depth detail you have had your receive damaged by a high power radio transmitting near you. I suspect a blown diode or tr7 the first RF amp transistor has failed.
Now it you are describing a low volume problem. Like the volume of your radio not increasing when you plug it in that can be a broken with in mic cord, bad switch in handset or solder connection at mic plug. It will still transmit.

FCC ID: K7GFV300 one of the radios doesn't output sound, or the other one doesnt transmit it. i can hear the little buzz when you press the PTT button

Check your programming first to see if the radios match perfectly. Here is a link to the user guide:

Next, check the battery pack in the radio that is not transmitting. A low or bad battery can prevent a radio from transmitting, as it takes more power to transmit than to receive.

Lastly, check the mic hole to see if it is covered or has debris.

Best regards.

Magnum 257 No Audio Being Transmitted

Hello.I have a similar situation on a Magnum 257 HP operating on SSB (AM and FM works fine). If i Transmit it works fine, but when i release the Mic button (after TX), in the bottom side were the RX level should be, it appear somth like a signal level 3 to 5 (constant and continous), but i can't get any reception at all. Only if i turn the TX power level to MAXand i transmit, then it goes back to reception, but not every time. Somtime after TX i need to push the mic button 2-3 times to make it recive somthing, but this wors only if the power level is over 60-70% an i repeat, only on SSB.Can i get some help with this issue?

No transmitting with Raymarine Ray45VHF

Re your queries:
1. how to memorize channels?
The channels are pre-programmed that a channel number corresponds to a frequency setting. Ex. Ch16 is 156.800 . If for some reasons some channels are missing, perhaps your best course of action is to reset the unit to factory default, that way everything would be back to  normal. Master reset is performed by pressing the 16PLUS button while powering the radio. The LCD will display "CL" indicating that the memory has been cleared.
If you  want to memorize a certain channel/frequency, you can only store it as a replacement for 16PLUS assignment. Ex. Instead of Ch16 as your priority/emergency channel you want say Ch14 (156.700), you can do this by pressing the up/down key till your desired channel; press & hold the 16PLUS key for 3 seconds or until you hear the confirmation beep that your desired channel has been memorized in the memory as the new 16PLUS.

2. Why I cannot transmit?
There could be 2 possible reasons:
2.1 You are transmitting on a channel that has been assigned as receive only. Examples are the weather channels, Channels 1,2,3,  also 70,75,76, and possibly others.
2.2 Your TX module/circuitry has a problem. More often it is the finals that gets burned.

3. When i use the PTT Channel 16 is automatically set ?
The mic has an identical 16PLUS button (similar to the radio's front panel). If you pressed the PTT switch on the side and the radio switches to Ch16 (as if you pressed the 16PLUS button on the front) then you have a wiring problem from the mic to the radio. Possibly a shorted or open connection.  It is also possible that you have a break in the small PCB (in some versions) inside the microphone.

The user's manual can provide a more detailed instruction.  It is available at the RayMarine website and the link is >

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need further information.

Good luck and kind regards.

VHF transmit power

Hi, It is not typical but neither is there a problem with the radio. Transmit Power output is loosely dependent on the: 1. Frequency or channel you are transmitting. Normally, Marine Band VHF are calibrated for max (25 in your radio) at Ch16 or 156.800Mhz; 2. If the SWR of the antenna is not a flat 1.0, power tends to go down; 3. After some time, the TX side of the radio needs to be re-calibrated; 4. Power Supply - some radios will push max output only when powered with 13.8 and tends to go down when used with 12 volts. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.
