Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer only fills part way before agitation begins

I have a kenmore washer 110.26842691, and when I turn it on, it only fills part way before agitating, all else seems to run fine, but this one problem.I can hold the reset button to get more water in the tub, but I have to repeat that step for the rinse cycle also. Any suggestions before I call a repair man?

The water level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. The switch is usually a diaphragm like device with a small clear plastic tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level rises the pressure increases on the air in the tube. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch to shut off the water, and signals the timer to start the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you will probably need to replace the switch. Hope this helped.

Will not stop agitating, timer will not advance

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.20922990

As you say, I'd also suspect that the timer is not advancing.

The washer fills and then no agitation begins - it has no electrical, I think

Check the lid switch. That's a safety interlock that keeps the agitation from starting with the lid open. If the switch is bad, or if the actuator is not properly contacting the switch, then the machine will just sit there after it fills.

Washer will not agitate. After starting the washer the water will begin to fill but when it's time for the agitator to begin it shuts the whole machine off.

If the lid lifts up from the front, tighten the hinge screws on both sides of the lid. If the screws are tight open and close the lid..listen for a click.. no click..lid switch is bad.

Begins to agitate but stops

The motor could be drawing too much current and causing the overload relay to trip. You will need to get an authorised techinician to test the motor.
