Clean the pilot assembly if has any orange at the tip. If its burning clean and blue, then its most likely the thermocouple. Safer to get a gasfitter to check it out.

Can I replace the pilot light on a Vulcan Freeloader 260 gas HWS?

Hello...how old is the unit? Today it is very common for gas appliances to have electric igniters instead of a pilot light. Unless you are familiar with gas controll/regulator valves I would not recommend trying this yourself. I believe it is more likely a faulty or dirty thermo-couple. Again , unless you are familiar with the opperation of gas supplies ,controls ,etc. DO NOT ATTEMP to do this yourself!!! Gas is very dangerous for the less than well informed! Call a service pro or speak to and ask for the assistance of a knowledgable friend.

The pilot assembly is stopped up. It will need to be taken apart, blown out or cleaned and re-intalled. The yellow, lazy flame is preventing the thermocouple from getting warm enough to allow the main burner to ignite. Hope this helps.

I have a vulcan freeloader 260 gas, how do i make sure it has water in the tank

The old freeloader is feed by cold at the bottom and the hot feed comes out the top. Basically if you are getting hot water out the hot tap (or any water out the hot tap) it has water in it. If you have any concerns post a new fault, I will keep a look out for it. These are great heaters, well worth looking after.

Natural gas hot water heater not stying lit

Probably a bad solenoid in the gas valve. Higher voltage of a new thermocouple keeps it open longer but it still fails over a period of time. Look into a new gas valve for the water heater.

Could be moisture in the gas supply line - get your gas fitter to purge the line at the meter.
