Bernina sewing machine 1630.. Stitch won't stay in. Bobbin thread pulls out ???

Clip the top thread next to the spool. Raise the presser foot and pull the clipped thread DOWN through the needle eye. (Always remove the top thread in this manner. NEVER pull the top thread up!!!)

Now, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top thread. Verify the thread path is correct.

Set the top tension to the midway point (then tweak the tension by testing).

If the bobbin thread is still pulling out, the top thread tension needs to be tightened. The tension is correct when the top thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric.

Bobbin thread just pulls through. St itch looks fine, but the bobbin thread pulls right through?? I have tried a couple different bobbin cases, all supposedly for the 1630???

Not sure, but it sounds like the top thread may not be seated in the tension disk.

Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Set the top tension to the midway point and test your stitch. Then tweak the tension.

The lower tension on my bernina 1005 stitches ok for a couple of inches then goes loose for a bit and then back to normal - normal checks done including a new needle?

Is your bobbin case a genuine Bernina bobbin case? If not, replacing the bobbin case will solve the problem. It is a common problem to find a Oriental copy of a bobbin case in a Bernina machine for a number of reasons, such as where the casing was swapped by accident or intentionally. Most often, repair technicians don't know the difference and would rather pay $7.00 for a Chinese casing rather than $56.00 for an OEM casing. Whatever the case may be, if the machine tension nests on the bottom side, stitches erratically, or breaks thread, changing the casing can solve the problem.
The bobbin cases may have similarities but there are subtle physical differences that prevents thread escapement over the bobbin case.
Much more information would be needed in order to discover your problem, however.
Other problems can occur by incorrect starting of the machine such as beginning sewing by holding the top thread rather than turning the machine hand-wheel in the direction so that the take-up lever is at the highest position. Machines like the 1005 do not have an automatic "Needle Stop' function.
There can also be similar problems if an industrial cone spool is used where thread is being pulled off of the spool's side rather than from the top center of the spool.
If the bobbin case is an OEM casing it is possible that the "loop lift (needle and sewing hook) timing" has been knocked out such as having had a collision of the needle with a button, zipper, straight pin, etc. Bernina 1005's and all of the newer machines are not constructed in such a way that would prevent this from occurring. As mentioned, more information would be needed here.

12 wt thread

12 wt thread generally will not work well in the bobbin...

"Aurifil 12wt Thread
Aurifil 12 wt thread is ideal for hand quilting, big stitch hand quilting and machine quilting. 12 weight thread creates a more defined and often primitive look. It's great for designs that use a longer stitch length if using a machine. When machine quilting with 12 wt thread, use 40 wt in the bobbin, increase your stitch length, lower your tension, use Topstitch size 90 needles and stitch slowly."

Loose top thread bernina 1008, tension problem but no solutions yet...

Are you sure you are getting the top thread between the tension discs? You should be able to tell the difference when you lower the pressed foot.

Bernina Virtuoso 150 - all of a sudden my machine is dropping stitches and the bobbin thread is bunching up. It also most feels like my machine is trying to do a gather stitch. I changed the needle and...

Check that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder. The bobbin tension adjustment is the small screw in the plate on the bobbin case that the thread passes under as it comes off the bobbin and goes out.

Bernina Bernette 600 Deco embroidery machine

It could be that there is a loose piece of thread, or some fluff which is obstructing the tension gauge. Try blowing around the theading area (or even run the hoover pipe near it to see if you can **** it out). I cleared mine by folding a piece of non fluffy material and rubbing gently between the tension dial and machine.

Good luck
