It seems your laptop doesn't have an HDMI port. You must rather use the vga port and an auxiliary audio cable.

I HAVE TRYED CONNECTING MY HDMI LEAD FROM MY COMPAC LAPTOP TO MY LG TV I AM GETTING PICTURE BUT NO SOUND CAN ANY ONE HELP

You need to connect an audio patch cord between the laptop and the TV. Use the headphone jack on the laptop (3.5 mm M). Check your LG TV manual for the correct audio in on the TV. (Usually it is next to the VGA port if the TV has that PC input.) Computers do not send sound on the HDMI video output.

I hope this helps.

Connections to tv

The tv must have a VGA port, and you need a VGA RGB video cable, then you can connect your computer with your tv, and then do the same you do when you conenct a projector to your tv and that's it.

? dell monitor to compac ?

Since you didn't post the Model of the Compac, All I can give you is some general information.

1st, does the monitor work on another system? (Is it a known good monitor?)

If it works on another system, then the issue is with the system, or the connection to the system.

Check the connection to the system (Some systems have both on-board and expansion video cards, if the system has an expansion card the on-board video is usually disabled)

Make sure the cable is correctly connected to both the system and the monitor and no pins are bent.

If the monitor has not been tested, then try connecting it to a system you know that works.

Black screen!

lets check a couple of things. I'm sure you know that a laptop can be hooked up to a external monitor or projector, There is a button usually F5 Or close to it that will turn your monitor off and send it to the external one. In some models of toshiba this will stay in effect even when you turn it off. You can toggle this setting by holding the FN key down and pressing the appropriate "f" key. try this first before you chuck it. There also may be a problem in the bios. Let me know how it turns out. Take care..Be mucho blessed... Mark
