Question about GE JES1289SK Microwave Oven

Timer Shuts off after 5 seconds

My microwave oven timer shuts off after about 5 seconds. The convection part of the timer and the grill part of the timer seem to be working. Anyway, if I sent the timer for anything in the microwave portion it'll run about 5 minutes and then shut off and the time appears on the clock. You don't have to reset it or anything. Anyone have any ideas short of throwing it in the garbage?

The unplug from the power line and plug it back in and resetting the clock didn't work. It's 5 seconds - then it just stops and the clock is displayed as if nothing happened. When I tried the convection portion that part of the clock worked. I guess the magnetron has something to do with the microwave? I spent $250 for it last year and, of course, the warranty is off. What do you think it is? And what do you think it would cost to fix? It's more of a problem to just get it some place. Thanks for your help. I look forward to your followup answer.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Is it 5 seconds or 5 minutes? The difference coulsd be important, but either could indicate a bad magnetron.

Let us know if the hard reset doen't fix it.

At this point, all I could say is that it would seem to be a bad connection, maybe on the control board, or possibly a fault with the magnetron.

It's really time to check with GE and have them point you to an authorized servicer. It will take troubleshooting.

My sharp will only run for 59 seconds and then shuts off. It will heat up what ever you are heating but shuts off after 59 secounds no matter how many minutes you program into it.Is there a simple solution...

Yes the timer has the problem, now a day it is built in on microcontroller if your microwave is digital control. The only you can do is send it to nearest service center in your area where they have that parts.
I do hope my advice help you.

Sharp model R-1871 shuts off every 59 seconds

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample drawing for a typical damper assembly.

We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded it to our site here and here to help you.

If a switch is all you need, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can order here.

Panasonic Model No. NN-S933BF Microwave Oven

No sorry the issue will be with eiher the inverter, the magnetron or the main timer board. There is a tracer signal that comunicates through these components and if it doesnt get to where it is supposed to go it wil just shut off, the big hint at that is the time interval. It is not something like a sensor heating up and causing a fault. it is not running long enough to get any thing hot it is in the electroincs. Too expoensive to repair, im sorry better to get a new one. Good Luck

Microwave convection oven repair needed

Check the internal fuse. Unplug it, unscrew and take off the cover, the fuse should be easily found in the back by the power cord. I tlooks like a regular fuse but is white instead of clear glass because microwave fuses are special. You'll have to measure it with a meter as a result and be sure to replace it with the same kind. (try finding them at radio shack) Hopefully there isn't something more serious also.
