V A new gas cap dose not always solve the problem with the EVAP system .
And understand the concept of the system is unsound to begin with .
What its supposed to do it store fuel vapor in a sealed system in a charcoal filled canister at the rear near the fuel tank .It has a vent valve from the tank to the canister most likely problem .The vent valve has a filter air needs to get in so the tank can vent into the canister but vapor can't get out .Its an electrically controlled solenoid that opens in conjunction with the canister purge solenoid located on the intake manifold .
When the engine rpms reach a high enough speed the purge valve is supposed to open and burn the fuel.
With cheap materials from China the fuel system rusts out the tank the lines all of the seals in a few years add road salt you are left with nothing except a government mandate drafted by fools .
The last time I filled up my tank hundreds of times more fuel vapor went in to the upper atmosphere then my vehicle with the evap not working in a year .

Car runs very ruff. computer says small emissions leak.I have replaced gas cap, this helped for 1 day. now check engine lite is on again.

Did you erase the code after you repaired the problem ??..Emission leaks are usually not affective
to the engine performance...But a gas cap is for some reason...You actually need an emission
leak tester hooked to it ...Or a DRB III eng. analysis tool....I am chrysler tech.....
But normally emission troubles wont make it run rough unless it is very bad !
It may be your O2 sensor.Doublecheck gas cap security.....make sure old code is cleared before you make any more adjustments....Check engine for any vacum leaks...This could be the problem....Because it shouldnt run good for a day after changing only the gas cap...
Make sure all electrical connections ( PLUGS/WIRES/INJ.CONNECTIONS...etc..) are good...
You may have to take to dealer to clear codes and recheck.....Maybe update PCM
Hope this helps.......................................Level II CHRYSLER ..................Metalpoet

99 lexus es 300 chk engine and trac lock lite on

I had check engine light and TRAC OFF. OBD-II MIL code was P1133 which is Air Fuel Ratio Sensor Response Malfunction and scanned by AutoZone. After disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes, the lights went off. I cleaned the gas cap and tightened it firmly. For the last 400 miles, the lights have not come back. When scanning using Snap-on one, no code was detected. I think gas cap was the reason for the lights.

Engine error lite P0465

Replacing the EGR valve, its actuator, or your DPFE sensor could all be at fault. I would probably start with the valve itself since it's an EGR leak code. Your gas cap was a wasted repair. The gas cap would cause a P0441 or 445 evap code, but not an EGR code.

Check engine lite on .autozone says e-vac leak. what should i look for?

Are you sure it's e-vac leak or is it e-vap leak ,because the e-vap leak could be as simple as you have not tightened the gas cap enough, and that willturn on the check engine light.

Check engine lite

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you should have the car diagnosed and repaired. First step is to find out what code turned the light on.
