Question about Alpine MRP-M500 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

I have an 18 year old car with a MCC-6616/6631 audio system installed. I disconnected the battery for 2 months and now cannot restart the radio without a security code which I do not have as the car has been through a few owners. Can you help me to bypass this security code and start my radio.

If this is the original radio, get rid of it . you would have to go to the dealer for it. not worth the problem.simply buy a new deck. no code required.

No security code audio system

These units do not have a security code like some radios. Instead, they are coded using a CD. You insert a CD into the radio and it codes to that disc. You need that same CD if you ever want to unlock the player. If you don't have it, you are SOL. Eclipse is no longer in business and they were the only ones that could reset it. The system is known as "ESN Security".

ESN Security: This unit is equipped with the Eclipse Security Network. You can register a particular music CD as a "key" device which unlocks the security. If the registered CD is not detected, the navigation and audio functions will be disabled when the main unit is disconnected from and reconnected to the vehicle's battery.

Battery and charger tips

The M series Motorola radios such as the MU21CV, come equipped with a NiCD rechargeable battery. This battery when fully charged should operate the radio a full 8-10 hour business day. The batteries have a life expectancy of 18-24 months.

The original Motorola battery has a date code in the white box above the stop sign on the back of the battery. The first digit is the year, and the next two are the week of the year. Example: 919 would be 2009, the 19th week. (Unless very old and it could be 1999)

When replacing the battery it is important to install the battery correctly. Put the top of the battery into the radio first, then slide the bottom into place. This method will cause the least pressure on the internal battery contacts.

If you battery's contacts are dirty or filmed, simply clean them with a pencil eraser. Do not use solvents or a knife blade on the contacts. The radio's contacts can also be cleaned with a pencil eraser.

The wall adapter style charger which came with the M series radio can burn out over time (much like a lightbulb). Replacement chargers are available. If your charger light is flashing, you most likely have a bad battery. If your charger light does not illuminate, you have a bad charger.

Replacement batteries and chargers are available, as is repair of this style unit.

Motorola RDU2080D Short Battery Life

Short battery life can be due to several factors:

1) Short initial charge(s) when the battery was new.
2) Age of battery. Check your date code embossed on the lower portion of the battery below the label. On a three digit code the first number is the year, next two are the week of the year. If a four digit code the first two are the year. Example 142 is 2011 the 42nd week. OR 1142 if a 4-digit code. If you battery is more than 18-24 months old it likely needs replaced.
3) Short charging the battery by putting the radio on the charge too often, or with the radio turned on. Always turn the radio off when charging.
4) Poor connection with the charger. Clean your battery contacts on both the radio and the charger with a pencil eraser.
5) Excessive talking. Heavy talkers radios will run down quickly. It takes more energy to Transmit than to Receive. Using the 5/5/90 rule, your battery should go an 8 hr business day.

Note: There are 3 battery styles available for your radio. The one which comes with the radio is a 1100 mAH battery. There are also two others with higher capacities available.

Best regards.

The audio board is at fault. Take the unit in for repairs at any car dealership. They can send it out for repairs to any center that repairs radios for cars

Won't charge

1) Clean your battery contacts with a pencil eraser. 2) Check your battery and charger to see if they are functioning by switching them to another radio and seeing if the problem persists. 3) If the battery and/or charger are defective/old, replace them. (Batteries have a 12-18 month life expectancy) Here is a link to the Motorola store http://www.store.motorola.com/mot/en/US/adirect/motorola?cmd=catDisplayStyle&catKey=601560

WHEN I PLUG MY TOM TOM 700 INTO THE MAINS OR CAR ADAPTER THE GREEN LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I DISCONNECT THE LIGHT GOES OFF. IT HAS BEEN ON CHARGE OVERNIGHT, BUT IT WILL NOT POWER UP.

If your GPS is more that 18 months old it may be that the battery has died.

They can be replaced and a good source is Ebay.

About 18 month to 2 years is the expected lifespan.

Its an awfully short lifespan in my view but thats how it is I am afraid.

The fact that you get the green light should mean its charging but its pretty clear its not holding that charge.

Sorry for the bad news.

I had a 14 seers Trane installed 18 months ago. The thermostat goes blank and the system doesnt come back on until I flip the breaker or disconnect power to the ac.

try replacing the batteries in the thermostat on your wall. probably has 2 AA's this may fix it if not may have bad or old wiring from tstat to main indoor system. when you had a trane installed did they change the air condition components only(likely) or did they put in new furnace, new wiring, new t-stat, a full install?

Another "No Audio output device is installed"

Actually the problem that you have is the power management. Go into Control panel then the power settings. Make sure to turn off system standby. The reason that it is not installed after it comes from sleep is that it is not reenabling. THe computer turns off the component during sleep.

Flashing yellow light when charging

Clean your battery contacts with a pencil eraser and see if this clears up the problem. If not, your batteries may be needing replaced. When batteries get old or are shorting out this is common. Rechargeable 2-way radio batteries have the following life expectancies. NiCd 18-24 months; NiMH 14-18 months; and Li-Ion 12-14 months.
