Even though there is no water connected, you will probably have to turn the ice maker unit to OFF so it stops trying to harvest... If you are never going to use it, simply remove it by taking out the one 1/4" nut screw on the bottom and the two screws above the unit, then unclip the wire harness. I was having the same problem.
I read on fixya that there is a reliability issue with many models.
I called GE customer service. They sent a repair guy who swapped out the motherboard at no charge even though it was out of warranty.
Works great now.
2 of my neighbors' friges went out in the summer here in Las Vegas. They both lost all their food.
He said I was lucky because after the clicking noise begins, the motherboard usually crashes the next day. Mine clicked for a month.

The ice maker red light is blinking and it has made very little ice in the last 24 hours. What do you think the problem is?
