I have inherited a HP Proliant ML530 server. It was supposed to be running linux, but does not boot. I was gernerously given a HP Smartstart disk, but it will not configure the raid array. It is if the whole machine was new, and ready to be setup. What do i have to do to start setting it up. It does not seem to have any on board BOIS that i can find. Thank you.

To configure RAID, you have two options:

1> via POST process wherein you will be prompted immediately by the system when it detects that the array has not been set up yet. usually through <F8> key.

hope this helps!

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Hello I have problem with mainboard on COMPAQ ML530 - always error Unsupported processor type - not matter when I put 1 or 2 CPUs, not matter what type (FSB correct ofcourse) I think mainboard is broken...

a 14 year old server for what?
not once did you tell what you are attempting. not a clue.
looks? like you are installing an OS , is that it.?
what OS? of the 100s .'
first off you did not read the HP pages on this server
nor read the page telling you what OS is supported.
The OS must like the server, the BIOS on it , then number of processors and amount of RAM there. and type of processor.

are you going to serve files, ? its true purpose.
or attempt to use it as a deck top? say running w10?
2 very different goals, no?

most of these relics came with
windows server 2003 with SP1, (most be sp1 or newer)

tell the helper what you are attempting first, and end goal and use for this server. (vast exist)

Need to rest bios for hp proilant ml530

I assume you meant to write 'reset.'
I'd recommend you research HP's extensive user forums. Don't count on any help from HP people; once they are sold, they aren't interested any more. I no longer accept HP systems (Compaq either) for service.

SCSI Devices not detected when posting ML530 Server.....

To get to the BIOS for your server, press F10 at start-up. This should get you there to verify if settings are detecting SCSI devices. If they are there, you may have to reinstall the SCSI controller drivers. Good Luck.

What is it worth?

Honestly, it depends on the make (g1, g2, g3) and configuration (how many processors, amount of memory, how many disks, type of RAID card, redundant power and if it woks) I remember these machines were pretty bulletproof. Find out the config for each, then you can make a fair comparison using ebay.

There are many configuration settings, although i personally would hunt down an SCSI hard disk, many will fit from many other models just like IDE ones

Adding a network card in compaq ML530

If you have the tower model. Swing open the front bezel left to right. Then lift up to remove it. Chap 3 of your manual. Using a #15 Torqx allen wrench provided on the back of the unit remove the cover plate screws to gain access (Chap 2 of your manual). The rest should be simple.
