Question about Delta Faucet Delta 2457 Orleans Two Handle Kitchen Faucet with Side Spray, Chrome

1 Answer

I cannot get the set screw out of a Delta two-handle faucet. I may have stripped it trying to get it out. I sprayed it with Liquid Wrench, but I still can't get it out. What else can I do to get it out? I had no problem with the hot water handle, but this is the cold handle and the faucet is still leaking. Thank you

You can't apply any worthwhile heat to try and free this off without causing further damage, but if you have a pipe freezing kit handy you can try freezing it a few times and then pouring boiling water over it to thaw it suddenly. The thermal shock sometimes works but it's not a sure enough thing to be worth specially buying a freezing kit for.

That leaves two other possibilities: drill the screw out and get a replacement (or adapt one from another machine screw) or partially drill it and use a very small stud extractor. If the screw is brass then just drill it out in my experience as stud extractors just don't work on small diameter non ferrous materials.

If you drill the screw out then you need to use a drill bit small enough to go down the centre of the screw without damaging the threads, but large enough to leave it sufficiently thin-walled to be able to collapse inwards when you subsequently winkle it out. Usually I find that a pin punch driven anticlockwise against the thin rim left after drilling does the job.

Take handle off (either set-screw from side or bottom of handle, or phillips screw under cap on end of handle), pull off sleeve that's behind handle, unscrew nut that holds cartridge (strap wrench works great) and pull cartridge out.

Low pressure hot water only delta 470ddt

there is likely sediment under the spring and washer on the hot water side of the faucet under the handle. If you shut off the valves to the faucet, it is very easy to dismantle. There is an allen screw on the front of the handle to remove the handle. Under the handle there is a nut. Once you unscrew this nut there is either a ball or a cartridge )depending on the year of the faucet) that can be removed If it is the ball, then you will see two rubber washers in the base. Use your allen wrench or needle nose pliers to remove the washers and remove any sediment.

The water leaks from the top of the valve when the handle is fully opened.

You may have to put a new repair kit in faucet, but you might try tightening the adjusting nut under the handle. Loosen set screw in handle, and remove handle. There is a nut there with 4 notches in it. Delta gives you a combo allen wrench/spanner wrench for this. Try to tighten this nut. If you can't you can buy a new repair kit for this valve for about 10.00 that comes with wrench

Hello. Actually it is not difficult to remove the faucet. If you can pull up the sink with faucet attached it will be very easy. Otherwise get under the sink with a flashlight and you will see what tools are needed. A special extendable faucet wrench from Home Depot would come in very handy. Regards. Joe
