You cannot lock the SD card from menu, if the card reselt protected it can be damaged, the first thing to do is download the pictures to computer. Protected pitures can be downloaded normally.

If you instead need to remove protection from pictures, this must be done acting on the pictures one by one.
To remove protection go to play meny , select the function Lock, then press Funct/Set button twice to remove protection.

If that does not work take out the SD memory card and check that the tiny tab on one side of the card had not been set to lock position.

If card is still locked, take out the card, put in a computer with card reader , and format the SD card.
Remove camera batteries for one minute, so to reset settings, then put the newly formatted card back into the camera.

Manual available here.

My fujifilm finepix jx 300 says protect card even after sliding the switch on memory card to unlock

check if in the card slot is any debris. You could try to clean the contacts of the xD memory card with a dry cloth. Place the card on a flat underground and press firmly on the cloth. Don't press without a flat underground, because you could easy break the card.
It also could be some of your pictures are protected. You have to unprotect the pictures first.

How to unlock a photo in camara

The protect function allows a user to protect a picture from accidental deletion. To unprotect a picture on your camera, scroll to the protected picture that you want to delete, then press the Menu button (the button to the right of the Play button.) Scroll down the menu and you should come to an option that allows you to Protect/Unprotect the picture. Since your picture is currently protected, deselect that option. You should then be able to delete the picture normally.

Alternatively, you could also format the memory card, however this deletes ALL photos and data you have on the memory card. If you are trying to completely clear the memory, this is the best way. After turning on your camera, simply press the Menu button, scroll to Setup, then scroll down to Format. Select Format, it will ask you if you want to format the memory card, or the camera's built-in memory. Format whichever one you want to clear, if you are using a memory card then your pictures are stored on the memory card. It will take a few seconds to format.

Hope this helps.

My camera won;t let me take pictures because it says its "write protected"

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

My camera says that the memory card is protected. I cannot unprotect it. Any suggestions? I cannot take pictures or erase pictures, only view them.

First, make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position. Then press "menu/set", playback menu, select "protect" and then choose cancel.

If you had protected any pictures on the card, then while viewing that picture press the Menu button. Use up/down to select Unprotect.

How to unprotect the memory card

If I understand correctly what your asking what is the brand and size of the memory card. If I were to take a stab at it right now I would assume there is a lock/unlock switch on the card. Have you had this problem with the card before?
Good luck,
