Crazy Mook absolutely nailed it with his solution, however you must save the file to the EXTMOV folder on the camera drive to be able to view it. It does not show as a playable file anywhere else.

Found solution that worked for me at:

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=155658

Solution is to name your file with this convention...

MOV_xxxx.MPG

where xxxx is 0001 or 0002 or etc.. so your first file would be named MOV_0001.MPG

I did this and it worked fine.

How to Convert Camcorder AVCHD MTS Videos to Netgear EVA9150 ?

Convert/Play Panasonic/Canon/Sony AVCHD MTS Files to Netgear EVA9150 Suitable Formats for Playing

The Netgear EVA9150 is the successor to the EVA8000, which won a Best Buy award in our last group test. The new model has some significant improvements, including an easily accessible 500GB hard disk and support for an even wider range of HD video formats and protected WMA-DRM10 files. Netgear EVA9150 offers equally strong video support as follow:

Video file formats: AVI, DivX, Xvid, WMV9, MOV, M4V, VOB, MPG, MP1, MP2, MP4, ISO, IFO, MKV (with AC3 only), TS, M2TS, PS

Audio formats: MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, FLAC, WMA-Pro, M4A, M4P, AC3, DTS Passthrough, PCM, LPCM

From above info, we can find MTS format is not supported by Netgear EVA9150, but now many AVCHD camcorders like Panasonic HS900, TM-700, TM80, Panasonic AF100, Panasonic HDC-SD5, Panasonic SD900, Canon Vixia HD Camcorder, Canon VIXIA HFM300, Canon HF M41 HD, Sony HDR-SR8E, Sony CX700V, etc give recordings with .mts as extension, which are not supported by Netgear EVA9150. So if you want to play MTS files from camcorders to EVA9150, I will recommend two ways to achieve it.

First Method, you can rename the MTS extension to M2TS or TS, it will play fine. But his method may not work with all the MTS files.

Second Method, download a powerful MTS Codec software. Aunsoft Final Mate is such a MTS decoder which helps to decode and convert camcorder MTS files to WMV, MPG, AVI, MP4, MOV, VOB etc with high quality in fast speed. Then you can put MTS streams to Netgear EVA9150 for playing.

Following are the steps about converting Panasonic/Sony/Canon AVCHD MTS videos for Netgear EVA9150.

Step1. Import AVCHD MTS videos to Aunsoft Final Mate.
Launch Final Mate, click on Resource Tab and click Add button to browse your PC and select the path stored your video files. Then all AVCHD clips stored on PC hard drive will be listed on Resource Tab.

Step2. Convert MTS files to WMV/MPG/AVI/MP4/MOV/VOB, etc for Netgear EVA9150.
Select all the files displayed under Resource Tab by using Ctrl + A. Then drag and drop them to Movies Tab to create a new movie and join clips into one. There will be a pop-out window asking for creating a single movie or multiple movies, you can choose "Create A Single Movie" to merge all MTS files into one for conversion.

Step3. Start conversion from MTS to Netgear EVA9150 supported formats
Click on Export button and follow Common Formats > HD Video > HD WMV, HD MPG, or HD AVI, or HD MP4, or HD MOV, etc to convert MTS format to Netgear EVA9150 supported format.

Tips:
You can edit your videos like trimming, cropping, deinterlacing, applying effect, adjusting volume, etc before conversion.

Best way about playing and converting MPG/MPEG files on Mac

To play an MPG file, a QuickTime player on Mac couldn’t fully satisfied. If you have an MPG file and you want to play it on your Mac, you need to download some components for Mac players or some other media players. If you want to edit this MPG file in iMovie, you need to convert this MPG file into MOV format first, and then edit it.
If you only want to play your MPG file, here we recommend two components for QuickTime Player. The most popular components for Mac players on market are Perian and Flip4Mac. The first solution is download one from either official website.
perian_lg.jpg
Perianis an open source plug-in which enables QuickTime to play several popular video formats not supported natively by QuickTime on Mac OS X, i.e. AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW. If your MOV file is still on strike, try to uninstall your old QuickTime Version and download the latest one QuickTime 7.6.
Flip4Mac is for watching Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player and viewing Windows Media content on the Internet using a Web browser. It’s not suitable for playing a MOV file.

How to edit and convert MPG/MPEG files to MOV?

If you want to do more and you want to edit it on iMovie or upload onto YouTube, you need a media converter for Mac to convert MPG/MPEG files to MOV formats. Mac MPG to MOV Converter will show you how to achieve it within several easy steps.
Download and install MPG/MPEG to MOV Converter for Mac here.

Step 1: After this Mac MPG/MPEG Converter is running , just click “ADD” button on the top, and choose your MPG or MPEG file you want to convert. If you have several MPG files and you want to put them together and get a complete MOV file, just check all the files and check the box in front of Merge into one.

mpg-input.jpg
Step 2: Click the “format” button on the thumbnail, select “Common Video” and Choose ‘MOV-QuickTime (*.mov)’ from the dropdown list . If you have no idea what kind of formats that your device supports, just choose according to the device’s name.

mpg-mov.jpg
Step 3: Before pressing Convert button, we advise you check the setting first. You can change the settings manually, also you can use the original settings, which will work just perfect.

Step 4: If you have no use for editing MPG/MPEG videos, just press “Start” and begin to convert MPG video to MOV for your Mac.

Tips:
What is MOV?
MOV is a file extension used by the QuickTime-wrapped files. The format was created by Apple Computer to work with multimedia files. MOV is a container format and can contain video, animation, graphics, 3D and virtual reality (VR) content or text (for subtitles, for example).

I have a yamaha dvd-c750. I have just created a slideshow using iphoto on a Mac, burnt to a TDK DVD +R. Inserted into the DVD drive. Machine tries to load it. Gives a message "unknown disc"? ...

DVD players can be picky with the type of file format that they use. According to an amazon.com review of this player, it does read DVD+RW/+Rs & DVD-RW/Rs so the problem probably resides in your file format.

The problem is probably the fact that the DVD Player does not recognize the file format of your Mac slide show. The computer recognizes this format, as it plays the slide show. The DVD player recognizes JPG file formats, which is the standard format of a picture.

If a DVD is made with JPG Files, not your slide show files, it will display thumbnails of each picture, allowing the choice of what picture to view.

If the slide show is a must, try to save it to a video file format, such as a *.mpg or *.avi which are common video file formats. These files would be movies of the slide show that you have made.

I have prepared a home movie on Windows Movie Maker and when I copied it to a DVD it would not play on a dvd player can anyone tell me what I did wrong please thanks joe

The reason why the DVD disk you created may not contain the file format the DVD player recognizes. On a normal DVD disk there are two folders - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. The video files are located in the VIDEO_TS folder. This video folder contains the VTS_xxx.vob video files (the video files has a .vob extension).
The video file you created may have a avi or wmv or mov or mpg extension, whilst these video files can be played on a computer but they won't play on a DVD player.
Check the movie software you are using and make sure it creates the correct file format for a DVD player.
