The bobbin winder turns left to right with no resistant. The spring came off which was attached to the bobbin winder attachment. How do I put the spring back on? Thanks.

You may have to take it to a repair service.

In the meantime, for ~$30, you can purchase a stand-alone bobbin winder (Sidewinder) at the local fabric store (JoAnn's or Hancocks) or even on Amazon.com.

How do I fix my bobbin winder?

1. Take the top off.
2. Check to see if the bobbin winder has pressure as you move it back and forth. There should be. If not then check for a spring connected to the bobbin and reset it. There will be some kind of post to hook it to.
3. Place the bobbin winder in the "off" position and put the top lid back on.
4. Without putting the screws back in move the bobbin winder to the "on" position and to the "off" position.
5. There should be pressure either way you move the winder.
6. Loosen the hand wheel handle.
7 With the bobbin winder in the "go" position use your foot pedal to make sure it revolves.
8. Replace the top.

What's your problem?

if the bobbin thread is winding around the bobbin winder spindle then
the bobbin is not sitting correctly on the bobbin winder spindle,,
the bobbin (metal or plastic) should lock in on the bobbin winder spindle
& the the thread should be around the bobbin tension guide

My bobbin won't catch on the bobbin winder, the metal post spins but the plastic singer style bobbin won't spin with it. What's wrong?

The bobbin may be stripped, or the bobbin winder might be stripped; try it with a different bobbin, to rule out the bobbin being the issue; if that doesn't work, look closely at the bobbin winder to see if it has been damaged. You may be able to adjust it's shape with a pliers

Bobbin winder plastic part came off, now it won't

You must put that black ring back on the sewing machine. It will not work without it. There is a groove in the black plastic part that lines up with the black metal "fin" that is in the middle of the bobbin winder. Put the "fin" in the 12 O'clock position and line the groove up at 12 O'clock as well and push it onto the spindle. It will "click" when you have it on all the way.

The reason it got pulled off is because the thread has too much tension on it as the machine was winding the bobbin and it crushed the center of the bobbin onto the spindle and the black piece that pulled off the machine. If you are winding the bobbin through the needle you must go under the presser foot, (always have the foot in the up position)and the foot must be a metal one and you DO NOT put the thread over the silver button like guide on the right side of the machine to wind the bobbin. That guide is a tension device that is used to put tension on the thread when you use the guides on the rear of the machine instead of the regular path through the needle. If you use the normal thread path through the needle and that button like tension device, it creates too much tension on the thread and wraps it too tightly on the bobbin, some it even breaks in half. You can also have bad stitching even if you get the bobbin off the machine because it can distort the shape of the bobbin which can cause it not to spool properly so you sewing tension of the bobbin is compromised.

Can't balance top/bottom thread tension-model 158.Bottom thread is a straight line. Have increased top tension to the stop. No effect.Have reduced bobbin tension until bobbin and case fall freely when held...

I disassembled the top thread tension controller consisting of 12-13 pieces, including 2 springs. Since they all fell out on the table I spent about 2 hours learning the proper stacking order on the central shaft.
With a combination of reasoning based on each unique piece shape and trial and error I put it back together, adjusted top and bottom tensions according to the instruction booklet for the machine, tested some stitching, made final adjustments and all worked well.
I don't know what was changed in the process but it worked.

Sewing machine bobbin casing is loose and can't get it back in!

In the lower right hand corner of the bobbin case area, there is a small finger-like spring structure. Gently lift it and push it to the right. Take the bobbin case in hand and inspect it. It is a round piece of metal with a groove running down the edge of it. Now look at the hook, or the round piece of metal that is in the bobbin case area. It has a slight shelf-like structure. Place the bobbin case groove into the shelf-like structure in the hook so as to make it sit flush. With your finger, take the front of the bobbin case and push it to its left so that it is as far counterclockwise as possible and replace the spring.

Hope this helps.

How to fix bobbin winding

. Put the spring on the hole that the bobbin winder fits into. Now put the bobbin winder in, but don't tighten the screw- just turn it once or twice. Put the straight projection of the spring on the right side of the bobbin winder. Start to tighten the screw. Before you get the screw too tight, pull the downward projecting side of the spring over the housing of the machine so that it is pressing on the inside of the machine creating a push to the left. Center the circular part of the spring underneath the screw and the bobbin winder and tighten up.

Bobbin winder shaft won't spin. LCD says bobbin winding.

Mine stopped working too. Gave up and wound bobbins by hand for a while until I broke down and took the machine apart -- an ordeal to figure out. I found that a pliable ring on the winder was completely disintegrated (gummy plastic-like stuff). An online search found this -- a bobbin "tire" which I THINK is the part I need: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-tire-brother-x55238051.aspx. Hope this helps. --Also cleaned all the lint out when I had the machine opened up. They don't make it EASY!

Bobbin casing for elna 8000

There is one small metal piece 3/4 inch long and shaped like the letter "T" that fits under the right hand needle plate snap one screw. Attach to underneath square nut and can be seen sticking out from the top holding the bobbincase in place after the top plate is replaced and everything is back together. If this is not it, a picture would help as I have repair 100's of Elna 5000 to 9000's.
