These guys mean well, but someone without any testing equipment , can not do testing of coil and wires/plug with those instructions, unless you have a meter and know how to attach probes. Simply put, unscrew spark plug, put plug back in plug boot. Pull over the starter rope, with spark plug grounded , either on top of motor(metal) . Then try to observe the Blue spark at tip of plug. If it is to bright out, you can also put a small screwdriver (small enough to put to sparkplug electrode) and crank it over while holding the screwdriver. If you get a bit of shock from it, you know it is putting out . May not be the best spark, or it could be just enough to ignite the gas. Then you know the carb is not supplying any or enough gas , and will need carb cleaning with carb spray, or rebuilding, and possibly a new carb. Observe coil and see if the magnets have turned a shade of blue. That means they have lost their magnetic charge, and will have to change out the coil.

SOURCE: stihl fs 45 ignition problem no spark

Disconnect the small spade terminal wires from the coil itself and test for spark. If you do not have spark replace coil. If you do have spark check those small wires for insulation damage and grounding. If wires are OK check kill switch.
NOTE: DO NOT START MACHINE with small wires unplugged! Only test for spark.

Stihl fs 80 trimmer, replaced carb, air filter, spark plug, ignition coil. still doesn't start. Next? not getting spark from plug

Loosen coil screws, adjust coil to magneto flywheel magnets with a double sheet of common paper, tighten screws, so that paper will pull out without tearing. That will give you the best chance for a good spark, with all you have done. Pull spark plug out , put top of plug back in spark boot.......crank ovr with rope, and ground spark plug on top of motor(metal), observe the blue spark. If none, check the short wires for any breaks from coil to switch. You can open handle and take out switch, if nothing else works.....then try and start. The wires are just to break the ground, to turn off motor. Can choke motor to stop.
