Whirlpool Side by Side Fridge Not Cooling

I have a white something or something (I am not Home) White Whirlpool side by side fridge with icemaker. I purchased it in 1999 and was the model just below the one with the built in water filter, mine doesn't have the water filter. Anyway, The fan motor in the freezer went out causing the ice to start melting and icing up. I was away and caught it after a week or so of running this way. I replaced that and it ran fine for a month. Now the fridge isn't cooling. The fan is blowing air, but either the compressor is out or maybe a relay? It used to make a click sound and then it would turn on. I was home briefly and didn't spend too much time looking at it but didn't hear the click sound. I can pull the rear cover and feel if the compressor is running. The coils are clean. Is there a relay or a temp control or what? I know I need the exact model number, just not home now and found this thread thought I'd get a head start. Could the compressor have fail running for a week with the bad fan motor?

    I may have same problem.

Fridge stopped cooling last night. Ice melting.

Compressor thermal limit is clicking. I don't think the compressor is running, but the fan is. Looking for troubleshooting sequence.

Well, I jumped the relay and the thermal limit and it ran but popped my homes circuit breaker after a min. I checked the compressors fields and the starting field was open. Seems the compressor took a dump. Got a new one but haven't had it installed yet. Seems these compressors are all crap and the newer fridges break down even more than the older ones! Kinda dissappointed with whirlpool products in general.

Jumped the relay and the thermal timer. The compressor ran, but felt the power cord getting warm and my homes circuit breaker popped. Seems the compressors starting circuit was open and the compressor was drawing too much current. So I got a new one and have yet to install it. I am dissappointed with whirlpool but heard that the new fridges are even worse! Seems all these new compressors are crap. Heard the Korean built fridges are great but I know for a fact that many high end LG's have issues with circuit borads going out and they cost $150 or more! They don't make it like they used to...

Sounds like you've got it. These relays generally don't go but the exception proves the Murphy rule. Wish you luck on this one.

Here's the sequence: First, the unit must be ice free. This happens after power down for about 2 days. If the compressor is clicking, power off for 15 minutes. While waiting....

Clean the condenser coils.

If a mechanical thermostat, does it click when you turn it from off?

Locate compressor in back of unit. Find largest pipe. Power on.

Pipe should frost over for about a minute and then either dry out or form ice on it. If frost stays, you need refrigerant.

If compressor is not running, it could be thermostat, defrost timer (find this little gem in the back of the refrigerator and turn the stub shaft about 1/3 way around...does this change anything?) If the timer is bad...replace it.

Compressors generally don't fail from long run cycles.

hope all this gets you somewhere.

Fridge is not cooling. lights are working. freeer is working

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

Fridge freezer over heating and is not cooling fridge section

It is normal for the middle strip to be hot. Did you check the temp setting in the fridge section?
Also - you might check for blockage in the bottom. Excessive dirt/dog hair can block the air flow.
Good luck
