There is a metal pin driven into the center of the handle where it pivots. Take a small screwdriver or a door hinge pin and drive it into the hole while prying the handle up a bit (as if you were moving it from Filter to Backwash or one of the other settings). The pin will come out the other end of the hole.

I have an AquaTools filter that is approximately 10 yrs old. I had a leak from the backwash. I replaced it with a Hayward spider gasket but the gasket seemed a bit small and water is still leaking out. ...

it's tight to turn because spider gasket is not correct size , if correct new old stock gasket cant be found then entire body of muliport valve needs to be replaced with modern equivelent
this will involve draining down water from entire filter section as glue needed to install doesnt like wet pipes too much and wont stick well leading to leaks , if your not 100%comfortable in doing this your self then a trusted pool service co needs be contacted ,plus who knows maybe they got the org gasket you need?

I replaced a spider gasket on my PAC FAB 2# Multiport valve and when I put it back together the sequence is off. Filter mark is actually the waste port and waste is actually the Filter port.... how do you...

There should be a screw hole in the valve lid that has a flat edge on one side (outside edge). The valve body has a matching flat edge that aligns with it.
In the event the handle was removed from the lid and diverter to replace the diverter o-rings it is not uncommon for people to put the handle back on the diverter 180 degrees of where it should be. The pointer on the handle should be aligned above the open port of the diverter. This is true of all multiport valves except the Hayward four way valve.

Changed sand now the multiport valve is leaking at very top?

Is it leaking at the joint between the tank and valve, between the two halves of the valve, or from the center of the valve (around the handle)? If It's either of the first two, you may need to replace the o-ring. Take it apart, and check to make sure the o-ring is in good shape, and seated properly. If the o-ring is flat, oblong, or leaving black on your hands, then you should replace it. If it is leaking around the center of the handle, then you need to replace the o-ring and/or teflon seal on the shaft of the stem assembly (the part the handle connects to. To get to this you need remove the top half the valve, then drive out the pin that holds the handle on. (make a not with direction the handle and the stem are. otherwise you can be 180 degrees of when you put it back together. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance post a reply in the comments, and don't hesitate to leave a good thumb rating if you found this helpful. Thanks, and good Luck!

I have put my hayward 710 multiport valve assembly back together and need to figure out how to put the handle back on. The handle has a pin assembly and does not seem to fit once everything is assembled....

Place valve on ground, sit in chair and place feet on top of valve. Press down evenly and the spring will compress. Insert pin in one side of handle then tap in lightly with hammer until even.

My filter and pump will not retain the prime after turning off. Its a pantera sand filter. I can hear an air hissing sound coming from the multi valve port

Either you have a bad spider gasket inside the multiport valve or a bad threaded fitting going into it. Check for leaks around the multiport and backwash line. You'll have to take apart the multiport valve to make sure the spider gasket is not damaged or out of place. Make sure to install the multiport valve in the same position. You can get a replacement gasket at most pool supply stores or online.
