Question about Dell (8H390) Sound Card

1 Answer

My speakers no longer work and I am getting a message that states "no audio device is installed." The only change since the last time I know my sound/speakers worked was prior to relocating my computer to a new home.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately when I attempted to "start" the windows audio service I recieved the following message:

Error 0x80070002: The system cannot find the file specified.

Thanks again for your help. I may have tried to play with settings that I cannot seem to undo and now I am getting a new error message. Yes, I am using Vista.

I know the speakers are recognized by the computer, when I unplug them and plug them back in I get a message saying the have been plugged in. However, I am not recieving the following message:

Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running the same process.

I have tried to restore my system to no avail.

Thanks again, you have been a great help thus far.

*The audio service may not be started***
Go to Start>> Run>> type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio>> Right-click on Windows Audio>>Select 'Properties'. Make sure that 'Startup' is set to automatic. Click Apply and okay...Now check the startup status under services..Make sure it says started. If not look to the left and click start service...
Let me know if this works...

Audio service refuses to start

The obvious, is it muted? NO. Disable device in Device Manager, enable device, no change, uninstall audio device, reboot, I don't know your OS, your OS should automaticly ID the audio an add driver. If it does not go to Acer website a download audio driver for your OS. Install manually. You stated,"after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop" . The Harddrive you installed, did you format it and install into this laptop and clone the drive? I am a bit confused by the statment, "after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop"?

I bought a pair of HP headphones and when I plugged them in they installed themselves. They worked fine for a while, but for some reason they stopped working. When I unplugged the headphones, I realized...

no computer listed, no OS stated, now THAT is a challenge. no?
this is common
it causes the system to have 2 sounds systems
that head phone is not that, its Head phones and a USB sound chip. (2 sounds systems are there now)

so you have 2 choices. (confuses me wife too)
1:; in device manager turn off the PC sound car, "disable it"
2: or learn how to run both using the sound, applit in the task stray.

right click speaker icon in tray
the pick (windows10) play back device
and last pick (which one you want now, new heads or stock speaker)

No sound on computer

It means no audio driver is installed on your PC. That is the audio device that it is referring to. The audio driver installer came with your motherboard support CD. If it is no longer available you can download realtek audio driver online for free.

Volumn not working after moving to another room.

Make sure the speakers are connected to the correct jack (Speaker out Green, Mic In Pink)

Make sure speakers are plugged in and turned on.

If you have integrated audio built in to the motherboard, make sure Audio is enabled in the BIOS. If you have a soundblaster or other 3rd party Audio card installed in the motherboard expansion slot, then make sure integrated audio is OFF in the BIOS.

Download and reinstall sound card drivers from support.dell.com
