Make sure the belt is on the drum there is a cut out switch open if the belt is broken. If that,s o.k. go to the door switch. good luck

My Roper dryer worked fine until my basement flooded about 6 inches of water on floor. Now my dryer just hums when I try to start the dryer. The heat does come on. When I spin the drum and hold in the door...

It sounds like the motor was damaged in the flood. You may be able to salvage it by spraying both ends of the motor shaft with penetrating oil several times moving it in between, but you may not be able to salvage it.

Dryer is getting Power but not coming on.

Check the following---

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

Roper Dryer Won't Turn On

Quick check list starting with the most likely to the mostly likely NOT:
Fuse edfbadd.jpgmounted on the blowers housing this puppy is wired in with the door switch. If the lint in the dryer gets to blocking the exhaust then this puppy gets all hot and bothered and melts, causing the whole machine to come to a screeching halt just as if you have opened the dryer door. Clever ain't it? Clean out the lint and replace this fuse.

You may have tried this but every time mine has ever stopped and refused to restart was because I forgot to clean out the lint in dryer screen.

That should be just a push to start switch. The start switch is inside the motor. When the motor turns fast enough it trips an internal switch to keep the motor running. It sounds like you have a motor on the way out.

The components to check include the motor's start switch & capacitor, if so equipped, the push to start switch, & all associated wiring. Check to see if motor & drum turn freely. Does the motor hum when starting is attempted?
