Hey bill thanks for the response, just wondering even know I ran it for about 8 hrs the day before with zero problems , you still think it might be rpm? I have it mounted on my concession trailer running of propane, my electrician came and looked and he didn't know either! Thanks

  • Douglas e brown Jun 23, 2016

We did some research and it said dirty air filter and or lack of fuel or not enough, just kinda of baffled!

  • Douglas e brown Jun 24, 2016

I wanted to do a dry run in the concession trailer before I got out in the field so I fired everything ran it alday( I have 2 propane tanks that mount on concession trailer, also I filled again today before leaving for show and have two more for back up, didn't want to get caught with my paints down so to say!! There wouldn't be any reason if this generator can run two house hold for it to been damaged if it all was professionally installed if it ran yesterday alday yes new out of crate and then I go to fire again today to have any problem unless maybe a bad regulator or maybe something else that's why I came to this fixya forum!!

  • Douglas e brown Jun 24, 2016

just trying to diagnose the problem but your right calling generac is prolly the only solution at this time!

  • Bill Boyd Jun 24, 2016

well all we can do is to give different views to a possible solution but ultimately you have to decide what to do and the warranty service will be the right decision

Low voltage can be from incorrect running rpms
as it is new out of the box I suggest that you get a service under warranty to sort out any problems

  • Bill Boyd Jun 24, 2016

you stated that it was new out of the box so dirty air filters is out of the question
as it runs on propane gas, lack of fuel could be a pointer to a bad regulator or low gas in the tank
did you get a regulator in the case with the unit or did you use a bbq regulator
there could be different flow rates if you did which will be a lack of fuel response
I still suggest a service call under warranty because if you set it up according to the set up/ user manual , it should start and run straight up with out problems

  • Bill Boyd Jun 24, 2016

    I am confused
you say straight out of the box new , yet it ran for 8 hours with out a problem
just how big is the propane tank you are using
if it is a 9kg bottle , he bottle is probably empty
exactly what size is the gen set as 15kw is a large capacity unit ( big enough to run 2 houses)
if it is 1.5kw then it was probably running in an overloaded situation and could be damaged
remember gas ( propane is cheap but is less economical that petrol and will not last as long on a gallon of gas

SOURCE: Generac Guardian 17.5KW Generator dies

If this is one of the big "taco cart" portables you need to check that the vent on the gas cap is open when you're running the engine. In the center of the gage on the gas cap is a little knurled knob, turn it counter clockwise (lefty loosey), about a half turn or so and run the generator.
If that doesn't solve your problem add to it here, otherwise please give me a rating I'm trying to build a little credibility here and could use the help.

SOURCE: generac xg10000e won't start

Very annoying is the word. In order for many on todays small engines to pass EPA regulations, the carburetor is set very lean. This makes them very hard to get started and warmed up. Once warm, most will run OK .
Try choking a little 'til it is warmed up and running smoothly. Some have an adjustable main jet that can be opened a little to overcome this problem.
Some are not adjustable and some have a small plastic cap over the adjusting screw. The plastic cap is supposed to be a tamper proof thing.
If you still have trouble take it to the local small engine man. I am sure he has the cure or marbe he can adjust under warranty.
Hope this helps. Robert

Generac Guardian Standby Generator 04760 15KW LP won't stay running

Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.

One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.

I have a 15kw generac genset and it has an "overload remove load" fault which can be cleared from the evolution controller. genset started but shutdown after 5 seconds.

The overload fault is indicating that your connected load is overloading the generator capacity and it's tripping off. Check your connected load (what ever is hooked up that you're trying to power). You need to use an amp meter to verify the amp draw, and also the rated voltage output. If it's low voltage, could be low engine RPM or voltage regulator. high current indicates a problem with load your trying to power, ie-- Motor or other load.

Why is there no output?

You need to determine if it is a Brushed or Brushless generator and follow the tests on the link below. (You will locate the brushes on the end of the alternator in a 12o'clock position if they are fitted).

These type of gens have a low oil shutoff. Check the oil. Always have spare spark plugs, a cheap fix. My gen always wanted a new plug every year. Look to see if it has a fuel filter.

under warranty , you best have to wait the time as anything you do to fix it will void the warranty which will suit the service agent just fine
if you void the warranty he will get 2 hours travelling time plus the cost to repair time so don't touch it

I have a Generac 15kW air cooled standby generator. I have replaced the battery the spark plug the air filter the oil filter the oil. It is fueled by propane gas. All it will do is crank. Can you please...

You can check for tanks being turned off and of course if there is fuel in the tanks. If further troublshooting is necessary you should likely ask for assistance.

Generac 43903 standby Generator overspeed indicator on starting

I have a generator that did the same thing. It would start and then stop within a few seconds. The more expensive generators have an oil level safety switch to prevent the engine from burning up. There is usually a wire connecting to the switch on the outside of the engine near the oil fill hole. Remove this wire and try to start the generator. If it runs without a problem then it is the switch. You need to remove the switch and take it apart carefully and clean it. There is a small float inside the assembly. When the oil runs low the float allows the switch to short to ground which kills the spark to the spark plug. Hope that helps.
