If the company were to actually replace the lens, it would be very expensive. However, they don't do repairs anymore...they just replace your camera with a refurbished one that may not even be the same model and charge around $175 and up. While making up your mind, consider this...does the scratch actually appear on the printed or viewed pictures?
If you don't know already, then I wouldn't try repairing it. Consider selling it on ebay to a repairman who fixes and resells them. Then buy a good on from a repairman or someone upgrading, for a good price.
Common problem with TZ3. You can try to lub lens cover using graphite lub. Use it sparingly and after lens works, wipe off excess with dust cloth. Be sure not to get any on lens itself.
If lub doesn't work, you can pull out the lens cover altogether and find a manual lens cap the will fit.
The other option is to sell it on ebay to a repairman in a auction and replace it with another working used ones. Keep your accessories and by a used one cheap without accessories.
hello, i did get also same message and lens did stay out. did put camera in play back mode and in menu did reset everything. now it works again. maybe i was lucky, maybe this is ,,the"solution.
