Question about Microsoft K5100141 Keyboard

1 Answer

F Keys aren't working, nor Alt-F4

I'm using a wireless Logitech keyboard, and also using Windows Vista. It seemed to have just happened randomly to me a couple weeks ago, and hasn't stopped since.

Do you have an F-Lock button on your keyboard? Most of the time that is the culprit of this problem.

I lost the use of the Ctl. F4 key to close any program. How do I get that back?

I am afraid there is no easy answer to that one. Microsoft in it's infinate wisdom has removed / reassigned / added shortcut keys in Windows 10.
Alt + F4 Closes the Command Prompt window and may do what you need. It seems to close any open /active program.

Advise uses of all F Keys.?.

Hi,

F1

Almost always used as the help key, almost every program will open the help screen when this key is pressed.

Windows Key + F1 would open the Microsoft Windows help and support center.

Open the Task Pane.

F2

In Windows commonly used to rename a highlighted icon or file.

Alt + Ctrl + F2 opens a new document in Microsoft Word.

Ctrl + F2 displays the print preview window in Microsoft Word.

F3

Often opens a search feature for many programs including Microsoft Windows.

Shift + F3 will change the text in Microsoft Word from upper to lower case or a capital letter at the beginning of every word.

F4

Open find window.

Repeat the last action performed (Word 2000+)

Alt + F4 will close the program currently active in Microsoft Windows.

Ctrl + F4 will close the open window within the current active window in Microsoft Windows.

F5

In all modern Internet browsers pressing F5 will refresh or reload the page or document window.

Open the find, replace, and go to window in Microsoft Word.

Starts a slideshow in PowerPoint.

Cordless Keybaord - Some keys not functioning

Could be interference from a wireless device using the same frequency. Locate any other wireless keyboard/mice from the vacinity and try it again. Also, push the connect button on the bottom of the keyboard and see if that helps. Also make sure the base station of the keyboard is close enough to the keyboard/mouse.

Function keys F1 thru F12 don't work

Keyboard might have gone bad. Try hooking up a external keyboard and see if they work. If they don't then you have a motherboard issue. If they do then it is a keyboard issue. If you lucky it is just a keyboard then you can get one here for 20 bucks.

Wireless 1000 keyboard not supporting standard Windows F-keys

I had the same problem. I just could not get the "Alt-F4" function to work in a macro.

In the Macro Editor, in the lower center, you will see the "Z" actions. I realized I wanted the "Press and hold Z" function.

To get this, use "Inserting Special..." function to insert the Alt key stroke in the macro.

Then highlight the Alt in the Editor. Right Click and select "Split."

This will put the "Press and hold Z key" and "Release Z key" icons in the Editor.

What you want is the "Press and hold" function. Delete any other references the the Alt key.

Then enter the F4 key, and there you have it.

Hope this all makes sense to you.

HP Laptop keyboard fails... sporadically

I suspect your problem may be caused by the wireless keyboard, even if you are not using it. You may be using your computer in a "noisy" environment where the wireless transceiver is picking up random signals and corrupting the keyboard interface. Or the wireless keyboard driver could also be at fault.

Can you de-install the wireless keyboard from your system and see if the problem occurs again?

NOTE: I had weird problems with my Microsoft wireless mouse until MS came out with an updated driver for it.
