If it's a loud 60 cycle hum stop running it and have it serviced. This hum can be a shorted output which can send out 50 to 60 volts out to your speakers damaging them.

I'm getting a gargling or hissing sound that comes in and out of my Harman Kardon HK695-01. I can still play music it through it, but the sound is annoying.

Hi there,
Please check if you have the sound cable plugged tightly in the port.
Check if the same problem happens on a different speaker or another music source. (this will determine if you have grounded sound port or grounded speakers).
Try reinstalling the sound driver of your pc.
Hope this helps!

Older Harman Kardon computer speakers have loud hum

The hum (50 or 60 Hz) is caused by the AC power getting into the entry point of the amplifier. Either the filtering capacitors from the powersource of the speakers have dried up - replace them - or there is a short in the cables.
There is another possibility: if you have kicked the subwoofer  box its transformer might have slipped from its fixings and now is touching the subwoofer speaker frame.
The only way to find which is to open the cases.

Most probably it's an internal problem with their power supply (a capacitor with broken soldering).
It can be quite easily repaired by a person knowing which side of a soldering iron to grip ;) If you have a friend that's familiar with electronics, you can ask to take a look. If you don't, the repair shop will most probably want a flat charge, which will not be feasible.

Humming noise

Usually Humming noises come from frequency interferance.  In this case it is being caused by your input sources.  A smiply solution is to replace the cables and or seperate the source cables away from any electircal cords or sources.
