Sony amp TA-F417R no sound, when device on temp it may work

Hello i have a sony stereo amplifier that originally had a problem in the electronics, went back for service three times (no sound at all), after that it worked fine.

after some years (the device is not used so often) it again shows some hick-ups, i.e. there is no sound. only after some time (when it is warm) and the volume knob is put to very loud, it all the sudden might start yelling through the speakers (waking you up for sure)...

does anyone know how to do troubleshooting to find the root cause (what to check, bad soldering? which component to replace, ... etc)

thanks in advance

My first suspect would be the output relays. These can get corroded over time and the classic symptom is that you get no sound at low volume levels and high volume levels will kick in the sound. There may be other issues as well such as poor solder connections. If you don't have any experience with this type of gear, have this checked by a service center. The cost should be minimal.

Wires connect stereo

Assuming that your TV has a headphone socket, the easiest way is to connect a lead from the headphone socket on your TV to a spare line (or auxiliary) input on the Sony amp. You will need a 3.5mm stereo plug to twin RCA plug cable, long enough to reach both pieces of equipment. Most electrical stores should have a suitable cable available at modest cost :o)

Trying to set up just the amp & tapedeck of the Sony TA-AX335 integrated stereo system, but can't get the ribbon power cord to work.

Does the deck light-up at all, or is it completely dead? I've found that in aging tape decks, the belts will deteriorate, and change into tar. I've repaired several of the TA series Sony systems, and that's usually the case. If the deck is just 'dead,' I would recommend retrofitting standard RCA jacks on the back of the amplifier. The pins on the ribbon cable are clearly marked on the PC board inside the amp. Then, you could use any deck you want, or even a CD recorder. Hope this helps. :)

Need connecting wiring for sony am/fm jx 285 connecting to the sony stereo amp ta-ax 285

If you are trying to connect a ribbon cable tuner to a conventional RCA input terminal amplifier, it won't work because the ribbon cable carries the signal output as well as the data for frequency synthesis which is determined by the processor located in the amplifier ( that is supposed to work with that type of tuner), and the data buss for the buttons on the front of the tuner.

For the time and effort to put into a workaround, it is cheaper by far to get a tuner that will work with your amp. If cosmetics are not an issue, brand of tuner will not matter as their outputs are "Line Level" or nominally 1 volt peak to peak..

No sound

When the amplifier will turn on but not produce any sound that is usually an indication of either the high voltage power supply inside the amplifier is not working, or the amplifier IC or amplifier circuit is damaged. It is not something that can be repaired unless you have experience working on electronics.
