SOURCE: Humming noise from motor of oscillating fan.

Wd-40 is not a very good lubricant. It only lasts fror a few days and then dries up again. In order to get your fan working again, take some 3-in one oil and put a drop at the bearing side of each bearing top and bottom with the shaft upright. Spuin and tap the motor briskly with a small tack hammer or screw driver handle. This will impact and allow the oil to get into the bearings Keep tapping and turning until you feel it lighten up a spin freely. Turn it over and do the same thing again. I garuntee that all will be fine after this.

Cooling fan for a presario cq5621wm dont work

Central Processing Unit chips have a tendency to overheat when used for long periods of time. This is why virtually all desktop processors come installed with cooling systems that include a cooling fan. However, cooling fans are not invincible. They can burn out if they are not cleaned often and properly. To clean the fan in a Compaq Presario desktop, there is some light disassembling involved to gain access to your computer's CPU fan.

Turn off your Presario desktop and disconnect the power cord from its socket. Wait 10 to 15 minutes before you begin disassembling your computer. Attach an electro-static discharge wrist strap to your wrist and attach the wire clip to the outer casing of the desktop. This helps prevent damage to your computer caused by static electricity. Rotate the desktop so the back panel is facing you. Place the desktop on its left side. Remove the two Phillips-head thumb screws from the right side of the computer's back panel. Grasp the molded grip on the side access panel and slide the panel away from the desktop. This will reveal the interior components of your computer. Locate the cooling fan assembly attached to the back panel of your computer. Grasp the power cable extending from the fan, follow the cable to its connector on the motherboard and disconnect it from the motherboard. Locate the locking tabs on either side of the air duct assembly. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the notches on each tab and disengage each tab. Remove the air duct once the air duct assembly comes loose. Repeat this procedure in reverse to install the new cooling fan assembly.
This might not be your specific desktop computer it might give some insight into repair or removal

When the fan kicks in. The unit screams

Noisy fan can be caused by a worn out fan/bearing or there may be some debris in the fan area. You can disassemble the unit to explore this. You might find debris or by wiggling the fan cage you can usually tell if its loose, the bearing is shot. Sadly, the company is out of business, and I dont see these parts being available anymore. So you really have nothing to lose by doing a little exploratory surgery.

Model number not listed

That is a good question. My Model FTR184 Windchaser fan is not working either (has standby light on, and doesn't run, even when temperature setpoint is reduced to less than room temperature (in the PS - personal settings - mode), and more frustratingly, even in the FAN mode, where there is not supposed to be a Standby mode. That darned red Standby LED light just stays on no matter what mode I have fan in (though it does go off when I operate the Power on/off switch to turn everything off. So, I agree with Lease. Why isn't our fan model listed? And, of course, what is wrong with mine.
