Whirlpool duet washer fills with water when not running

If you do not do wash for a couple of days it will fill up with water by itself while it is off. If the door is not shut water will come up so high in the tub that it over flows onto the floor.

One of the control valves (hot or cold) is not closing the water supply, most likely leaking so the electronics are good. one of the valves needs replacing, but if you dont want to spend the money just shut the water supply off at the water supply taps.

I had this issue and this was the fix. Had the control valves replaced ($168 including labor and tax). As mentioned a temporary fix is to turn the water supply taps off after every load so you don't have laundry pile up until fixed like we did. The price of the part was ~$70 for those handy enough to fix themselves.

Hopefully you catch the problem before we did. We were out of town and the water overflowed out of the tub, onto the floor, and dripped into the kitchen ceiling causing quite a bit of damage.

I found that running about a quart of white vinegar through a cycle with hot water and no clothes or detergent takes care of the musty smell. Vinegar removes detergent build-up.

When not in use, my washer begins to slowly fill with water.

you either have a very poor water pressure to the machine or the fill valve is not closing completely and will need to be replaced.

sounds as if you have a bad inlet water vavle, it doenst complety shut off after use, and waer will trickle in( adding up to quite a bit in a day) youll need to replace the water inlet valve(directly behind themachine where the hoses hook into). in the meantime turn off water inbetween uses

Fills on its own door open or closed

I would bet the water inlet valve is weeping. It may not seal shut every time. It could have a piece of rest stuck in it also. It's cheap and easy to replace. The part # AP3128776.

Whirlpool Duet washer fills with water by itself

sounds like a faulty water inlet valve, not seating properly after closing the valve.replacing the valve is the only solution to this problem, in the meantime you can turn off your water supply in between doing loads.

not a bad habit to get into!!!!

Swede, you need to replace the water inlet valve. Part number 8181694. This is an easy fix. Just remove the 3 screws that are in back holding the top on. Slide the top back and you will see the valve. Couple of screws and a clamp and it will come right off. Catriver..post back.
