I cannot set up email alerts from my dvr. It tells me I cannot connect to server. I have followed the instructions but to no avail.

You may have to setup your email program settings:

You can find these settings on your desktop computer and check to see if they match the laptop's settings.

Ethernet cable is the easiest way. If you can, run a cable from your router to the DVR. This may require buying an extra long cable. Once you make the connections, just restart the router and DVR in that order, your IP info should show up on the broadband set-up page, found in the DVR menu. If your router requires a password to access the network you will have to enter that into the DVR settings after the connection is set up.

If running a long ethernet cable is not practical you may find it useful to try a Home Plug device. Just follow the manufacture's instructions. Alternately, a USB wireless device that plugs into your DVR can be used. You will need your wireless security info to complete the connection.

I have research and found the following solutions,I haven't tried them for my self yet but they seem to be solving the problem.

Go to menu/settings/application settings/message/email/email account/create account and follow the instructions below

Account Name: (your Gmail id) SMPT Server: smpt.gmail.com SMPT Port: 465 Secure Connection: SSL Incoming Server Type: POP3 POP3 server: pop.gmail.com POP3 port: 995 APOP login: no Secure connection: SSL Download limit: 500 IMAP4 incoming email: disable Retrieving option: subject only Keep on server: yes My email address: (your Gmail id) Username: (your mail id) Password: ********* POP before SMPT: no SMPT path: yes Same as POP3/IMAP4: yes User name: disabled Password: disable
If you want to set up your other accounts such as yahoo and hotmail, then just change the things given below, and leave the rest as it is.

Server settings for hotmail: Server (SMPT) - smpt.live.com SMPT Port - 25 Secure connection: SSL POP3 server: - pop3.live.com POP3 Port - 995


Server settings for yahoo: Server (SMPT) - smpt.mail.yahoo.com SMPT Port - 25 Secure Connection - SSL POP3 server - pop.mail.yahoo.com POP3 port - 110

2. Membuat Account dengan memilih New Account Isi dengan nama Gmail atau terserah anda
   • Setup Instructions lewatkan
   • Account name Gmail atau nama yang anda masukan tadi
   • Email alert Message alert 1 atau silahkan pilih sesuai selera anda
   • Connect Using (pilih sesuai dengan koneksi internet yang sesuai dengan kartu anda ) misalkan saja untuk mentari / IM3 pilih indosatgprs setingan gprs mentari / im3 ada di sini
   • Emai Address masukan alamat email anda dengan lengkap
   • Connection type pilih POP3
   • Incoming server isi dengan pop.gmail.com
   • Username isi sesuai alamat email anda
   • Password isi pasword email anda
   • Outgoing server isi dengan smtp.gmail.com
   • Advance settings klik
     • Your name isikan nama anda misal Zaki

     
     

     • Signature isi dengan Nama anda / tempat anda kerja atau nama panggilan atau kosongkan pun tak apa-apa
     • Downlaod S&R ada dua pilihan
       • mau pilih cuman judulnya aja (Subjects only) atau
       • seluruh isi email (Up to size limit)
     • Check interval pilihan berapa lama anda mau mengecek email anda secara otomatis atau matikan (off)
     • Push email (lewatkan)
     • Allow connection - Home network
     • Copy outgoing - Off
     • Encryption
       • Incoming server - pilih SSL
       • Outgoing server - pilih TLS
     • Outgoing username isikan aja alamat lengkap email anda
     • Outgoing password masukan password email anda
     • Incoming port isi dengan 995
     • Outgoing port isi dengan 587

4. Aktifkan POP dan atau IMAp di email ya

You must contact your server by phone.Or pay an internet cafe a few pence and email your server and tell them you need instructions sent to you on how to do it.By the way have you set up an internet connection?If yes go to your server email button see what happens here.If it says can't connect to server you've got to set up an email service on your new computer.Go to tools on the internet explorer or whoever your browser is,and first make sure your home page is in the top box.i.e.www.virginmedia.com.If youe using XP on the new computer you should have an email link on your destop or press start button and it should be at the top of that page.Click onto it and follow the instructions.But......you have to have to be connected to the internet.

I would check your software version. Several of the older versions had a lot of LDAP problems.
You can print out a system report and find your Firmware level, then go to Xerox.com, go to Drivers and Downloads and see what the new version. Current firmware level is 10.100.46.000 . follow the instructions.

The internal power supply to the HDD is often suspect in these units. Check you have power on the internal plug to the HDD from the circuit board. if you do not Try fitting an external HDD power supply (£15) this cured my unit which had a similar fault.
