Question about Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

2 Answers

It sounds fine in the upright position but when I drop the handle to vacuum there's a terrible whining sound from the front. Something's up with the roller. Can the belt go bad?

If its a loud clicking sound then it may be your clutch is bad. I called Dyson about mine and thats what they diagnosed it as. They wanted $125 to fix it. I went on ebay and bought a clutch and tool to help do the job and replaced it myself for less than $50. I watched a video on youtube about how to replace a clutch in my Dyson. It was done step by step and made the job so easy. It works perfect now.

Hard to push

There may be a dial or something to set your unit to "floor" or low, and "High", all for the type of carpet or flooring you are vacuuming... change the setting to the middle or "floor"/ low.

On the other hand, here is a silly experience we may be sharing- sometime these units have wheels set so that, when the unit is "parked" or upright, wheels come down in the back, thus pushing the front down. You can turn it on, but the wheels won't go back into the unit until you move the handle from the upright position... My ex spent 15 minutes trying to get the vacuum to be normal- and all she had to do was just get the handle back at 2 or 4 o'clock position, and it worked fine...
if that's what you did- you aren't the only one! :-)

Good luck.

High pitched whining sound when vacuuming. Stops when handle is in an upright position. Thank you.

the high pitched whining is most likely the belt and it stops when you put the handle up because the roller bar is not engaged when you put up the handle. If it is the belt making that noise it will most likely break soon and you will need to put a new one on. Hope this helped...good luck

Dyson dc07 will not lock into upright position

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner and look at the right-hand side wheel
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down and look for a black button that will be exposed in front of the square hole
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- Whilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square hole basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole

Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

Kenmore Progressive Direct Drive Upright - noise and bad suction

Had the same problem tonight. Took the entire thing apart only to find there was a much simpler solution. Check the small hose that runs from the brush rollers where the longer hose (on the back) attaches to the side of the vacuum. Easiest way to do this is to lay the handle down and stick something (coat hanger worked good) through it until it comes out of the head. I found a pretty good sized fuzz plug in mine. As soon as I removed it, everything worked great again - and no noise!

Horrible sounds on carpet setting!

There some screws from the bottom to remove then the top cover will come off, then you can check it over to see what the problem is.
