Question about Dell 1470 (W9284) 802.11a/g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Wireless signal degredation

I recently noticed a drastic reduction in my wireless signal strength. I have used my laptop and linksys router for months without a problem. Now out of nowhere my signal is low, very low, or none. I have not introduced any new gadgets that might interfere, checked with my ISP and did a troubleshoot with Linksys.

Additionally, I see that my Dell Truemobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN Mini PCI card is only picking up my home network and none of the other networks I used to see which makes me think something may have happened with the card.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Wireless signal degredation

Disable and renable wireless card, even try unistalling the wireless card and reinstall it. update driver for wireless card. then if those fail, put pc next to router if signal still bad then card needs replaced. If your ISP didnt have you power off the router for 30 sec then do so.

Check to make sure that you don't have any cordless phones in the area or ductwork directly below your computer between the adapter and the router.

I cant seem to pick up a very strong signal. Do i need an antenna booster?

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? Ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arid welders, washing machines etc. If so the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Good Signal,Good Mbps, Slow Internet Connection?

1. Try to use a different wireless adapter on all available USB ports, if the problem remains then
2. turn off your PC unplug the power cord from the power socket, short the two legs of the power cable then leave it for 5min, then plug it into the power socket again and turn on the PC.

if this didnt work then you have a hardware problem with the USB ports.

let me know how it works out.

Xbox 360 wireless adapter not finding network

Hello Sir,

Reset your AX by holding a pin or pen tip and count to 20.
Plug Airport Express
Wait a few minutes

1. Open Airport Utility
2. Manual Setup
3. Airport Icon -> Wireless Mode -> Join a wireless network
4. Network Name -> Enter the SSID of your Linksys router
5. Choose the same wireless security that you are using on your Linksys Router
6. Wireless Password -> Enter the wireless key that is on your Linksys router.

In the Music Icon, you should be able to find "Enable iTunes"

AX will continue to blink for a bit, perhaps a minute, while it searches and connects to the Linksys Router.

Should turn green.

Good luck.

An omni directional antenna connected to the router will extend the range of your wireless network, it should solve your problem. You can find them in any PCs store.
