You'll need to use two separate spools of thread. Machines that take a twin needle will usually have separated thread guides and two separate tension disks. Just make sure the threads are not twisted when threading. Might be better to thread one all the way through and then thread the second.

How To Use Twin Needles

Be sure to check the width of your stitch when using a twin needle. Because the needles will be wider than a single needle, it is very easy to hit the needle plate if setting it too wide.

Can I use a twin needle on Janome Sewist 500? I have tried and the threads keep getting tangled, or I get skipped stitches.

Difficult to say. The manual doesn't seem to mention using a double needle. However, frequently, the the bobbin loads from the top or the front, there is a possibility a double needle will work.

Be sure you are using the correct needle and thread for your project. Use a ball-point for knitted fabric. Also, be sure to thread one top thread all the way through the needle and then thread the other thread. Do not thread them at the same time as the threads will twist. If your machine has separators in the thread path for separate threads, be sure to separate the threads. (Most likely your machine does not have separators since there is no mention of using double needles.) ALWAYS THREAD with the presser foot raised.

I have a janome 2049LX. Why doesn't my double needle pick up the bobben thread?

The length of the needle might be too short. Compare the length to your single needles.

How do I use the double needle

first you take out the single needle, then you insert the double needle the same way you would the regular needle

the flat side goes toward the back of the machine inserted all the way up into the needle holder
then you take the 2 spools of thread & put them on the spool holders

then you thread the machine with the first spool just like when your going to sew normally with one needle & then you thread the first needle
& then the second spool is threaded the same path as the other spool,, ever guide & then you thread the second needle

then you make sure you have thread tails for top & bobbin thread of 3 to 6 inches long, pulled toward the back of the machine before you start to sew

happy sewing

Threading double needle

Double needle sewing requires two threads. Most machines have two thread spool pins, one spool on each pin. Both threads are threaded just like a single thread down to the needle, which is where they separate, one thread through each needle. One exception would be on machines that you can see the tension discs, some have a separating disc between the two outer tension discs, therefore, run one thread on either side of this centre disc. Also in zigzag mode, you must realize that you cannot utilize the full width of the zigzag due to the extra width of the needle path.

How to use double needle

That stitch is called a coverhem or a coverstitch. It is made with a coverhem machine which is basically a serger with an orbiting looper. Many upper end home sergers have coverstitch capabilities (Elna 945)

To use a double needle, simply thread two threads the same way that you would thread one. ONLY USE A STRAIGHT STITCH, AS THE NEEDLE WILL STRIKE THE PLATE IF IT ZIG ZAGS TOO WIDE.

Double needle use on Juki HZL-E80

if the machine regular needle threads front to back NOT side to side, you can use a double needle. simply pass both threads thru all the same slots (thread one at a time so they don't get twisted up) then just before the needles, leave one out of the thread guide just above the needle. you may have to loosen the top tension SLIGHTLY, like a half number. and do NOT use a zig zag stitch without first hand cranking it thru the cycle to be sure the needles clear, or you'll make a 5.00 mistake (the cost of the double needles!)

Threading a husqvarna huskylock 1001L serger

Solution taken from "Handbook for Huskylock Sewing Machine Models 1001L/1000L/1000"

1. Raise the presser foot by using presser foot lever. When the presser foot is raised, the two thread tension discs in the thread tension control panel are released so that thread passes freely between them. Otherwise thread tension may not be correct.

Important! When threading the needle, always be sure to lift the presser foot lever, and also take care to thread in the proper order.

Threading order:
1. Upper looper thread (green)
2. Lower looper thread (blue)
3. Double chain stitch looper thread (purple) in case of 5 thread stitch or double chain stitch
4. Right needle thread (red)
5. Left needle thread or double chain needle thread (yellow)

Caution!
Because the left thread tension dial (yellow) is used for either the left needle or the double chain stitch needle, these needles will never be used at the same time.

Upper looper (green) sequence:
1. Thread holder (silver triangle openings attached to thread holder stand)
2. Thread guide (flat silver clips just behind thread tension disc)
3. Thread tension disc (circular knobs with numbers for tension setting)
4. Pull thread around upper looper guide and upper looper
5. Pull thread into hole of upper looper

Lower looper (blue)
Repeat 1, 2, 3.
4. Pull thread around guide (see color coded chart inside front serger cover).

Easy threading mechanism (for lower looper)
1. Pull out the lower looper threading lever
2. Thread the lower looper and position the thread on hook of the lower looper
threading lever.
3. Push the lower looper threading lever back to its basic position while
holding the end of the thread.

Caution:
When returning the lower looper threading lever, always make sure that the two
blue triangle marks (directional arrows) meet each other.

Right needle thread (red)
Left needle thread (yellow)
Important: Thread the needles after threading of lower looper and upper looper.
First raise the presser foot lever, and then thread the needle threads in order shown in color coded thread guide.
