I can't turn off the flash on my Canon Powershot SD550... how do you do it?

  • Anonymous Apr 12, 2009

Very frustrating! I have owned the Canon PowerShot SD1000 for over a year, and am frequently frustrated by the camera's inability to allow the user to turn off the flash. The flash often yields pictures that are unnatural looking -- overly bright. But much more irritating than this is the fact that the flash builds in a several-second delay when snapping the shot, which often means that you lose the picture you were intending. I have two young children, and by the time the picture finally snaps (after the flash) their expressions have changed. And even more frustrating is that the sudden flash of light startles my baby, so what we end up with is pictures of a startled, upset, eyes-clsoed baby. Come on, Canon, give us the option of turning it off!!!

What u have to do is when u are going to take the picture click on the little lightening bolt next to the func. set button. 2 pictures will pop up- one of a lightening bolt and another with a lightening bolt with a slash through it. hit the lightening bolt button again and it will select the slashed lightening bolt picture. this will turn flash off to turn it back on go back to the screen with the 2 bolts the same way but press the button with the flower to the right of the func. set button.

SOURCE: My Canon sd 1000 won't power on. Battery is OK.

Check to make sure the batteries you are using have enough strength and volt power, if not it wont work. If they are really cheap, and last only a weak in the remote, they wont power up a camera.

Locked card

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Canon Power Shot A400 will only work with original Canon SD card

Make sure you are using an SD card and not an SDHC card. The SDHC protocol is newer than your camera, and your camera does not support it. SD cards have capacities up to 2 GB. Your camera should work properly with any SD or MMC card.

Going through batteries abnormally quickly

Hi. I bought a used A70 that had that problem. I disassembled the outer body panels and found that a base panel assembly screw was too long, and was touching the LCD's ground cable, at the cable's tip. I changed the screw for a shorter one and it was settled. It never happened again.
