Question about Dell Wireless Keyboard Optical Mouse w0147

1 Answer

I have a Dell laptop and am using a separte wireless (Logitech) keyboard and mouse. The cursor suddenly starts jumping around on its own. I have changed the batteries (twice) and it still jumps and acts on its own. I have scanned for virus. Any help?

Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is also occuring on the mouse on the Dell, so not sure the problem is isolated just to the Logitech.

Try another mouse, a wired mouse and see if the problem goes away, the logitech products have around 5Year warranty so if the problem goes away with another mouse, I think you can get it replaced.

Does it jump while your typing on the laptop? or completely on its own? you can watch from a distance without even touching the keyboard / mouse / laptop. And it still jumps?

Mouse started a shakey cursor, how to fix?

If it's an optical mouse (without a ball), try using it on a smooth surface, such as a sheet of copier paper. If the cursor is jumping around even when the mouse is sitting still on your desk, junk it and get another. With optical mice sometimes selling for as little at $2, it isn't worth repairing them.

I faced the same problem with my laptop and the fault was with the power adapter. I noticed that the cursor moved randomally only when the power adapter was plugged in. I got the adapter replaced and it is working fine since then.

Dell optical wireless mouse locking

If your mouse is "locking" the two most likely causes are either due to a battery issue or a connection issue. The first is unlikely since you're saying it started just after you replaced the battery, but you might want to try again if you have other new batteries around that you can use. Also you could try Re-Pairing (if you have the bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo that dell offers) the keyboard and mouse after reboot. step by step Instructions for re-pairing or fixing a corrupted are should be available on the Dell support website and vary depending on the exact model you have.
